Two top 25 upsets Saturday with No. 3 Baylor losing to No. 11 Stanford and No. 22 Missouri losing to unranked South Dakota.
Ok, can we dispel with the notion that size matters. Baylor is a really big team with 6'7" Kalani Brown, 6'4" Lauren Cox, and 6'1" Didi Richards in the starting lineup. And they bring in freshmen 6'2" NaLyssa Smith and 6'3" Queen Egbo off the bench. So, they should dominate in the paint. Right?
Well against Stanford, Cox only played 15 minutes and had 2 points and 1 rebound, their star center Brown had only 5 points and 8 rebounds. Cox looked slow and out of shape. Make you wonder how the type 1 diabetes is impacting her. The freshman Smith was the most effective big with 15 points and 9 rebounds. All of that size couldn't propel the Lady Bears to a win over a smaller Stanford team. The Cardinal had little played 6'5" Shannon Coffee help defend the bigger Brown off the block and held her to only 2-7 shooting.
If Stanford can do this against Baylor, don't you think UConn might have a chance to do the same?
The other upset was Missouri losing to a terrific South Dakota team. This loss should propel the Tigers out of the top 25, certainly in the coaches poll where they are No. 24. I watched some of this game and the players on Missouri are pretty chippy especially their star Sophie Cunningham. She is the kind of player you love on your team and hate on other teams. But the rest of the team is just not very talented. Once out of the top 25 I don't expect them back in again this season.

As I've been harping on all season the SEC is a pretty weak conference outside of Mississippi State and maybe Tennessee. We shall see about Tennessee on Tuesday when they play Stanford at home. Kentucky hasn't really played anyone of note.
They certainly were overrated when the season started. They had six teams in the top 25. Mississippi State, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Missouri and Texas A&M. After the next poll only Mississippi State and Tennessee will still be in the top 25 with Kentucky now joining them.
It's still early so some movement in the polls is still possible, but the SEC teams should beat up on each other with their usual "defense and rebounding" games so maybe what you see is what you get.

By David in Naples!!!!!
Anyone who wants to claim that Maya Moore is the best player ever to lace up her sneakers at UConn will NOT get an argument from me. Going on personal statistics, it would be hard to dispute. There are five major stat categories on the UConn Wikipedia page. Only one player is listed in the top 15 in every category. Yes, only Maya..!!
Points - #1 with 3,036 points. A full 360 points ahead of Stewie at #2.
Rebounds - #2 with 1,276 boards. Only Tina Charles had more...
Steals - Maya is 4th with 310 steals.
Assists - Her 544 assists are 8th all-time.
Blocked shots - Maya is 7th all-time with 204 blocks. (most surprising stat, imo)
Final Four every year and 2 National Championships..!! Top 8 in every statistical category..!! #1 in scoring and #2 in rebounds...! Maya did it all..!
Go Huskies..!!
