I may be the only person who thinks this is interesting, so bear with me. There is a difference between offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds.

An offensive rebound is a good thing that follows a bad thing. The bad thing is you missed the shot. The good thing is you got the ball back. That is different from a defensive rebound, which is a good thing following a previous good thing. They missed their shot (good) and you got the rebound (also good).  ;)

Why does all this matter? Well, in the DePaul game, UConn had more offensive rebounds (14) than DePaul had defensive rebounds (12). That is the first time that has happened this season. Since the Huskies missed only 26 shots, 14 offensive boards is important. It led to 20 second-chance points. Equally important, for the season, the total offensive rebounds (61) are spread out among a number of players.  Pheesa leads the team with 10, which makes sense since she is always crashing the boards. Lou is 2nd with 9. Also very note worthy. But tied for 3rd are Megan and Christyn with 8 each. Of the two, Squeaks is the surprise. How sweet is having your freshman guard come up big on the offensive glass?  :D

The defensive rebound totals are equally impressive. Collier leads with 49, which is awesome. Lou is again 2nd with 28, followed by Megan with 25. Interestingly, Crystal is 4th with 22 offensive boards, vs 2 offensive. Squeaks is 5th with 16. (Keep in mind Christyn is the fast break leaker, so her job is often to head down court after a shot, looking to fast break.) Overall, the team has 179 defensive rebounds. That compares nicely to UConn's opponents 76 offensive boards. When you miss so many shots, opponents are bound to get some 2nd chances.

Rebounding will be key in the Notre Dame game. Watch for UConn's offensive boards. Especially watch Pheesa and Squeaks..!

Go Huskies..!!
