Basketball action has started again, but unfortunately, not a competitive game among them!
No. 10 Tennessee beat up on Murray State 98-77. I watch most of the first half and as usual, I came away with some question marks about Tennessee. Yes, they scored 98 points, but giving up 77 to Murray State? Not good. They won again on rebounding with a 56-24 edge including 25 offensive rebounds. Yes, they had more offensive rebounds than Murray State had total rebounds. And they turned Murray State over 21 times. They also had their usual issues, turning the ball over 23 times and only shooting 31.8% on threes. Looking forward to see how they do against the rough and tumble (but weak) SEC.
No. 4 Maryland was able to put Penn State away in the fourth quarter in winning 77-61. This game was close for the first three quarters plus 1:11 of the fourth quarter. The Lions had a 57-56 lead after three quarters and then led by 3 after making the first basket of the fourth quarter. They led 61-59 with 8:49 left in the game. Then any ability to score for Penn State evaporated. Maryland finished the game on an 18-0 run and that was it. Penn State was 0-9 from the field, 0-5 on threes, 0-2 on free throws and had 4 turnovers. And they were home. I can't imagine how the fans felt watching this ending. UGLY!

Part I
Part I
UConn is perfect after 11 games at 11-0. But, not without giving fans a few anxious moments. Nine and ten point victories on the road will do that to even the faithful. Stats are what Huskies’ fans have come to expect. Here are the highlights:
1. Katie Lou leads the scoring with 221 points or a 20.1 per game average. Pheesa is close behind at 205 points.
2. Rebounding is also Napheesa and Lou, but in reverse order. Collier leads with 115 boards & Samuelson is 2nd w/ 86.
3. Those two also lead the team in steals with 13 each, Lou is tops in made threes (30) and Pheesa has the most blocks (12).
4. Christyn and Crystal still lead in minutes played at 379 and 376 total. The per game average is high at 34.5 and 34.2 respectively.
5. Crystal has 57 assists with Lou 2nd at 41 and Pheesa with 40.
6. The best stat is Crystal making 95.5% of her free throws (21-22). California learned the hard way fouling Dangerfield is not a good idea.
7. UConn as a team is scoring 85.4 points per game, averaging over 19 assists and making 51.1% of all their shots.
Next up is Baylor on January 3rd. The next 7 games after that are AAC conference opponents.

Part II
Both Katie Lou Samuelson and Napheesa Collier have moved up the UConn all-time scoring list. KLS is now 12th in school history with 1,933 points, just 57 points behind Renee Montgomery. After that, 10th place is just 4 points away with Bria Hartley at 1,994. So just 61 points will put Lou in the top 10 in scoring at UConn.
Pheesa is currently 14th with 1,814 points for her career. Next up is Svetlana at 1,865 points or 51 pts away. She will follow Katie Lou up the list with the chance of both landing in the top 5-6 spots. Collier is already 10th in career rebounds at UConn with 918. Kara Wolters is just 9 boards away in 9th place. Peggy Walsh is just 10 more rebounds away after Kara. Gabby Williams is 7th with 1,007 total rebounds.
In addition to scoring and rebounds, Pheesa is 8th in blocked shots with 199. Maya Moore is just 5 rejections away at 204. Stef Dolson is at 254 and is very reachable. These two seniors will continue to move up the UConn all-time lists with almost every game.
Go Huskies..!!
