Two overtime games in the top 25 Sunday.
No. 25 South Carolina was fortunate to beat Purdue on the road in a double overtime game. A South Carolina player was fouled shooting a three pointer with 1.3 seconds left in the first overtime and she made all three to tie the score. This was after Coach Staley incurred a technical foul. Can you imagine if they lost the game on that play? I still think the Gamecocks will be out of the top 25 in polling next week. Maybe Texas A&M might slip back in?
In the other overtime game new to the top 25 No. 23 Michigan State came off their big win over Oregon to barely get by lowly University of Hartford 74-66. Hartford had a 1 point lead with 3 minutes left but MSU turned it on with a 9-0 run to put the game away. Time will tell if the Spartans are truly a top 25 team.
There were several other top 25 games but these were more of the cupcake variety.
Notre Dame played Binghamton, Texas played Stetson, California played UC Santa Barbara, Iowa played Northern Iowa, and Miami played Maryland Eastern-Shore, all of them were predictable blowouts.
But in another cupcake game No. 21 Gonzaga escaped with a 70-67 win. I guess these games CAN be close once in a while.
