Geno has raised the anxiety level of a number of UConn fans by playing seniors Katie Lou Samuelson & Napheesa Collier all 40 minutes of both the Oklahoma and California games. “They will be too tired to play effectively in the Final Four” complain the experts from their sofas. I’d course, they miss the fact that the Final Four is in April, 3 months from now.
The average UConn practice is over 2 hours long. My calculations make that out to be 120+ minutes of running, jumping and shooting. And, that is against boys. Players have said repeatedly that UConn practices are harder than games. Is a 40 minutes game with timeouts, water breaks and halftime really an issue? No, it isn’t.
Katie Lou and Pheesa average 33.4 and 31.5 minutes per game, 11 games into the season. They now have 11 days “rest” before the next game at Baylor. I think Geno might have been aware of the schedule. Duh! After Baylor, the Huskies play the next 7 games against the AAC. Do you think the minutes per game will go up or down? Double duh!
Relax. The players get the best nutrition, test and training help available. The minutes played will average down soon enough. 40 minutes of game time is cake compare with a typical practice.
