Heading out to dinner with some great friends and my son and granddaughter. I should be a great time.

I have no idea how late a night it will be so I'm putting out an early edition of The Doghouse. There are no Top 25 games Tuesday so if there is any interesting news later, I'll update the blog!!

"Hosted by Rip City Management, LLC, the Phil Knight Legacy will feature 
UConn, Duke, Iowa and Oregon State in the women's field.

Each team will play one game per day in the bracket-style format on Nov. 25 and 27. 
Games will be at the Chiles Center at University of Portland, Rose Quarter's Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum."

All 16 PKI games will be televised on ESPN networks, including the men’s and women’s championship games – live from the Moda Center on Sunday, Nov. 27.

“We are honored to bring together some of the best men’s and women’s college basketball teams in tribute to Phil Knight and his lasting impact on the sport,” said Clint Overby, vice president, ESPN Events. “The quality of both fields along with the multi-venue setup will make Portland the epicenter of college hoops this Thanksgiving weekend.”

Straight from the Dog


Charlie SECreme has his latest Bracketology out and as usual it's heavy with SEC teams and head scratching seedings.

Nine SEC teams are in the tournment according to Charlie.

1 seed - South Carolina
3 seed - Tennessee
4 seed - LSU
5 seed - Georgia
7 seed - Ole Miss
7 seed - Florida
8 seed - Arkansas
10 seed - Missouri
11 seed - Mississippi State 

I really can't argue much with the top teams. But I'm not sure I would pick Missouri or Mississippi State. It's just that nine seems like an awful lot for a conference where all the teams beat up on each other. Maybe they are all mediocre?

UConn is listed as a 3 seed in the Bridgeport Region. Good. If Iowa State loses a game or two in the next two weeks, I expect him to flip-flop those two teams.

And Oklahoma is now a 2 seed? They have a Net ranking of 27. Yes, 27. And 14 in the Massey ratings. I don't think the Committee will agree with SECreme with this selection.

With several days still to go before the next UConn game against Xavier, it is time to look at weird & strange season stats. For example, Azzi Fudd is one of only three regular players who have more turnovers (11) than assists (10). Ducharme and Edwards are the other two.

Consider some others:

1. Nika has played 465 minutes and has only 1 made free throw. (out of 4 tries)
2. UConn has committed 314 fouls and been fouled 315 times.
3. Dorka has 6 blocked shots. So does Nika.  :o
4. Nine different players have started at least 4 games this season for the Huskies.
5. Azzi has 142 points, Aaliyah has 152 and Dorka has 162 points.
6. Azzi is shooting 90% from the charity stripe (9-10) while Aaliyah is at 84% (16-19).
7. Evina and Aaliyah are the only two Huskies to appear in all 22 UConn games.
8. Olivia has 77 baskets and 77 assists. 
9. Nika has 38 personal fouls. So does Christyn. And, Evina has 36.
10. UConn's 22 game point per game average is 72.2 ppg.
