GO UCONN!!!!!

UCONN HUSKIES                                                   SETON HALL
                  103                                                   58

Well, that was unexpected! Talk about a bounce back game.

UConn was on their game from the beginning and carried it through all four quarters for maybe the first time all season. And this with Fudd, Ducharme and Patterson not playing.

Let's talk about the injuries first.  Azzi didn't make the trip to New Jersey as she stayed back for what UConn called more testing. Is that an MRI? Probably. I'm hoping they are just making sure there was no new damage from that knee-to-knee collision against Georgetown. Fingers crossed.

Patterson actually warmed up with the team. So I would think she is really close to returning.

Ducharme did not warm up with the team. She was in her warm up clothes but just stayed away from any activities. She might be several days away from any game time.

But wow, the seven players that were available were just on point. Everyone, and I mean everyone contributed. Let's go down the list.

Edwards was just outstanding on both sides of the court. I predicted that she would match her play in the first match up and she exceeded it. She played 35 minutes and was 9-16 from the field and scored 21 points. She added 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Now that is a stat line. One play sticks out in my mind. She stole the ball and drove the court for a layup. What I loved was that Edwards dribbling the ball was faster getting to the other end than the very quick Park-Lane for Seton Hall. Now Park-Lane quit on the play after Edwards had a couple of steps, but wow. Edwards is amazing at 6'3".

Juhasz also had a great game. She played 30 minutes and scored a team leading (tied with Griffin) 22 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. I'm not sure there is another team in the country with two double-double machings like Dorka and Aaliyah. Dorka also had a block a steal and two assists. The number that stands out is her 4-5 on threes. When your center can step out and hit those shots she adds so much to the offensive capabilities of the team. I said in my pregame report that Dorka would do a better job on Cooks in this game and she sure did holding her to 4 points on 2-5 shooting.

Griffin is such an amazing athlete. And put her on the Seton Hall court where her dad played college ball and she honors him with outstanding performances. She played 37 minutes and tied Juhasz with 22 points, shot 8-12 from the field, 2-3 on threes, and 4-4 from the FT line. She also grabbed 8 boards, handed out 2 assists and added 1 block and 2 steals. She played GREAT defense as well, shutting down whoever she was guarding. And as I predicted, she had that offensive bounce back game.

Lopez Sénéchal started slow but despite the effort to keep her from getting the ball by the Seton Hall defenders she scored 17 points, going 2-3 on threes. And she did this in 30 minutes. Her great shooting ability forced the Pirates to face guard her and double team as well, leaving openings for Lou's teammates. So happy she signed with UConn. They would be in big trouble without her.

Muhl had one of her early season games. In 37 minutes, she only took 5 shots, making only one (a really nice drive and one handed scoop shot) but she made sure players got the ball in the right place at the right time. Finishing with 13 assists and only 3 turnovers, she controlled the pace and her on court leadership shined.

On to the bench....ah...the bench. What a pleasant surprise. Let's start with the play of the game and maybe the season.

DeBerry was spreadeagle on the floor with her back to the basket after picking up a loose ball. Two Seton Hall players converged on her looking to tie her up for a jump ball. But before they could get there, Bettencourt cut to the basket behind them and somehow DeBerry threw a perfect bounce pass between the Seton Hall players to Bettencourt for the easy layup. The smile of DeBerry running back on defense was priceless.

Bettencourt played 10 valuable minutes and scored 4 points and handed out 3 assist and had only 1 turnover.

DeBerry had what I would call a breakout game. Time will tell if she can build on this but her confidence has to be sky high and that couldn't hurt. Geno player her 21 minutes, allowing the coach to rotate the players around her at times. And in those minutes she scored 13 points, was 2-2 on threes, 1-1 from the FT line and grabbed  8 rebounds. They only have her for 2 blocks, but she had several intimidations. She really does have skills. Can she follow this up with another good game? Hope so.

Teamwise, it was like night and day in this game compared to that shit show against Georgetown.

The Huskies shot 56.5% from the field, 10-15 on threes and handed out 29 assists on 39 baskets and only 10 turnovers. What a great team effort.

The Huskies play next Saturday, getting three days off between games, before playing Butler, a team they already beat on the road 80-47. Then two days later they play DePaul in the make up game from the one that was postponed when UConn didn't have 7 available players.  Both games are at Gample so that will be a positive. And we can only hope that Fudd's exam shows she is fine and ready to play and Patterson will become available. Caroline will take more time.

Oh yeah, Tennessee at TBA on 1/26 on ESPN Game Day! It would be nice if everyone was available, but it doesn't look that way. The players they have are darn good.

Straight from the Dog

I hope the voters who used the Georgetown game and the Fudd re-injury to not vote them as No. 3 are feeling a little stupid right now.

I'm not saying those two things aren't true. They played really badly against Georgetown. And they don't have Fudd.

But the game before the Georgetown game they beat a formerly ranked St. John's team on the road by 30. And Tuesday night they beat a decent Seton Hall team on the road by XX scoring XX points.

LSU has pretty much beaten nobody. There are several Top 25 teams that would be undefeated with their schedule.

One more time, rankings don't matter. But I just don't like the disrespect shown the Huskies recently.

I've been pretty kind to the Orange Idiots recently but I just read something on Volnation that I had to share.

Now, we know how badly UConn played against Georgetown. I'm sure those morons are licking their chops to play against such a terrible team.

"UCONN and Seton Hall should be a goody tonight."

"UConn vs Seton Hall tonight - No Fudd (knee) and no Ducharme (concussion), possibly no Patterson. After the Georgetown debacle opponents can smell blood in the water. It's gonna' be a long night."

"Any way to watch?"

"Nah, no streams out there. Nobody pays for a network dedicated to UCONN sports"

"Too bad all their fans live in Florida now. Can’t turn a circle without hitting 3 new englanders down here now."

Hmmm....I wonder how I am watching the game here in Florida. Oh yeah.

Foxsport.com/live

Works great on my smart TV. No so much for the dumb Tennessee fans.

"You can watch it on the Fox Sports app but it is not much of a game. UConn is pummeling them with six players."

Seven, but who's counting.
