  UConn Huskies                                         Marquette Golden Eagles

                 61                                                                               48

In an unexpectedly close game, UConn beat back every run by Marquette to keep the game close with some clutch shooting to finally pull away for the 13 point win.

UConn's defense was great in this game, holding the Golden Eagles to 34.5% shooting and 5-18 on threes.  They needed to have solid defense as the offense was not up to it's usual standard. Geno said they looked mentally and physically tired and after the stress of losing player after player and the ladies having to play extended  minutes and the game being only two days ago with traveling from Omaha, well....you can understand why.

Nika looked especially off mentally. Trying to do to much and because of that she had 6 turnovers and missed every shot she took.

Edwards with 9 points and 8 rebounds along with Juhasz with 9 points and 10 rebounds had decent games but not their usual dominating post games. They were 7-19 between them. Plenty of credit to Megan Duffy's Golden Eagles who play a rugged but clean game. I didn't see any over the top intentional physicallity. I'm sure the more sensitive fans can find some examples.

Thank you Caroline and Lou for carrying the offense.

Playing through obvious head and neck pain, Ducharme had some clutch shots and just looked really good. She ended up with 19 points on 8-13 shooting and 3-6 on threes. She also added 7 boards.

Lou was 9-15 from the field, 2-3 on threes for 22 points. And some of those baskets came at real important moments in the game. So clutch.

So, not that anyone will listen to me but it's time. Gotta have Griffin and Fudd back for the next game. It's against a pretty bad Butler team  (they just lost to this same Marquette team 67-46) so they won't be needed. But I'm sure that by Tuesday Griffin will be out of Covid protocal and able to play.

The question is Fudd. If she was cleared for basketball activity on Thursday, she would have 4 days of practice. Enough to garner a few minutes against Butler. I'm hoping!!

Straight from the Dog

Creighton bounced back from their 3-29 three point shooting game against UConn to explode against DePaul in beating the Blue Demons 92-82.

The Bluejays shot 11-25 for 44% on three pointers and shot 54.8 for the game. DePaul game Creighton all it could handle, shootin 11-27 on threes but just couldn't get stops when they needed it. Morrow had 35 points and 11 rebounds. Damn, she is a handful! But she took 36 shots to get there. Not very officient.

This should keep Creighton in the Top 25.
