GO UCONN!!!!!

Just another great effort by UConn, as the team got a little healthier this game with Patterson returning to the rotation.

Once again Aaliyah Edwards was outstanding. Right now there is NO doubt she is All-American worthy. She has turned into an impossible match up in the post for anyone to guard. She shot 10-13 from the field for 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out 4 assists. All in only 26 minutes. So efficient and just so talented!

Nika Muhl had what she would say was her most enjoyable kinda of game. She only took two shots, one to just beat the 30 second clock, and missed them both. But she ran the team to perfection and handed out 10 assists. And her usual pain in the ass defense. Geno just doesn't want to take her off the court, so she played 37 minutes.

Aubrey Griffin was another player Geno didn't want to see on the bench. She played 36 minutes, and scored 18 points on 7-14 shooting going an uncharacteristic 4-8 on free throws. Her pogo legs got her to 11 rebounds and her quick hands allowed her to steal the ball 4 times. Her work around the basket is so much fun to watch.

Lou Lopez Senechal played her usual game, going 4-8 on threes and scoring 20 points in her 29 minutes. With Fudd and Ducharme not playing her three point shooting is so important in opening up the inside.

Dorka Juhasz had another outstanding game. Geno gave her plenty of rest, playing her only 30 minutes, but she was really really productive in that time. So close to a double double, she had 19 points and 9 rebounds. She added 3 assists and 1 block.

So, yes, the starting 5 was great. But I thought this was a great game for the bench as well. It wasn't just garbage time with a big lead that gave them their minutes. They all played well when on the court, doing a great job playing within the offense and defense as well.

Ina Bettencourt did a nice job in the back court, running the team for the three minutes that Nika sat and doing a great job as the only other true guard on the team. She scored 4 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dropped a couple of dimes. Just some nice minutes overall in 12 minutes.

Amari DeBerry continues to play some good basketball. She played 16 minutes and scored 4 points and handed out 2 assists from her point forward position. She snared 3 rebounds and blocked two shots.

It was great to see Patterson back with her new hair do!! I love it. It makes her look tougher for some reason. She contributed 13 minutes and scored 6 points. She was really active around the basket grabbing 6 rebounds. Hopefully she continues to get minutes and improve her game after so much time away.

Geno sounded thrilled in his post game court side interview. He was glowing about the team effort in slowing down DePaul's Morrow, who "only" had 20 points and 12 rebounds. But she needed 26 shots to get her 8 baskets. Great job by the UConn bigs.

If wasn't just great defense on Morrow. UConn held DePaul to 26.3% from the field, 21.2% on threes and their free throw defense was outstanding holding DePaul to 4-8. And in one of UConn's best rebounding efforts, they had 59 to DePauls 32. A +27!

Up next is Tennessee, a game I really hate. Their fans are insuferable and just the outside chance that they could win gives me an upset stomach! My Pregame Report will be out soon.

Game Highlights

It must have been a worldwind few days for Jana. But she made it to UConn, enrolled and is sitting on the bench for the DePaul game. I'm sure she is practicing with the team.

The deer-in-the-headlights look on her face says it all. But I'm sure her teammates are doing their best to make her as comfortable as possible.

She did it again. Caitlin Clark had another triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists. She is such a talent. Clark's effort was good enough to propel Iowa to an upset win over No. 2 Ohio State 83-72. And it was on Ohio State's home court.

I wonder how far the Buckeyes will drop in the rankings next week after this loss. I'm sure it won't be behind UConn.

Her play makes me miss Paige even more

It's that time again. Time for the "Player 1 vs Player 2" game. This game is where I list the stats from two players and you have to 1) Decide who is the better player and 2) Guess the two players.

Are you ready? Here goes!!

Player 1 - 18 games, 13.4 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 58.4% from the field, 32.4% on threes, 79.4% FT, 23 assists, 37 turnovers, 6 blocks, 30 steals

Player 2 - 20 games, 15.2 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 43.9% from the field, 28.6% on threes, 73.8% FT, 71 assists, 48 turnovers, 14 blocks, 30 steals

Now that I have listed these players, it's really a tough call. Player 1 has a big advantage on shooting percentages across the board, but Player 2 has way more assists.

Hint, Player 1 is a great defensive player, Player 2? Not so much.

And thoughts and guesses? No fair looking it up!!
