GO UCONN!!!!!
So, will UConn play Wednesday against St. John's?? No announcement yet and as much some UConn fans think they know, they don't.
What we know is unless there has been another injury UConn has only 6 players that were available for DePaul. Muhl, Lou, Juhasz, Griffin, DeBerry and Bettencourt. In order to play on Wednesday, they need one more player to be healthy enough to play.
According to AD Dave Benedict UConn needs the players to be able to play witout any limitations.
“There’s really only one scenario and that is, when do we get back to a place where we have seven available players that aren’t limited? Someone is not healthy if they can come back, but play limited minutes. So it’s up to the student-athletes, our athletic trainers and our medical team to tell us when they are healthy.”
Ok Dave, what does limited minutes mean? They would have to be able to play unlimited minutes? You really weren't clear here.
Let's look at a game scenario.
Muhl has played 40 minutes before. Four times to be exact along with games of 39, 38 and 38.
Lou has played 40 minutes twice and 39 once.
Griffin has played 35, 34 and 34 as her top minute games.
Juhasz has played 35, 35 and 34 minutes since coming back from injury.
Lets say that those four play their max minutes. That's 40, 40, 35 and 35. 150 minutes.
With DeBerry and Bettencourt healthy, they would only have to play 25 minutes each.
But the rule is you need 7 scholarship players available. They rule doesn't say how many minutes they have to play. They could play zero. So this "no limits" on playing time as a criteria seems like bullshit to me.
If Edwards can play but Geno only wants her to play 10-15 minutes, that is just less time for DeBerry and Bettencourt. Nothing wrong with that.
If Ducharme is out of concussion protocol but Geno only wants her to play 10-15 minutes, that is all UConn needs from her.
How about Fudd. What if she gets the go ahead but clearly she can't go unlimited minutes after being out almost 6 weeks? Still minutes available for the game.
Any one of those three available and UConn can play, even if they can only play 10 minutes.
Unlimited minutes my ass.
Bring on St. John's!!

I saw this on a message board and there are a lot of injuries across WCBB. Not just in Storrs.
But you can read every one of these article and UConn has been hit more than any other school.
Jana is #12 and does the jump on the left side of the screen. She also gets the first bucket in transition.

Straight from the Dog
You have to have different standards for different teams when handing out an award as prestigious as the UGGY. When a weak team plays a ranked team, the stats have to be under 50 points, under 30% shooting, under 20% on threes, and way more turnovers than assists.
But if you are the No. 1 team like South Carolina and No. 4 team like Notre Dame, the numbers can be different.
Sunday, South Carolina beat unranked Mississippi State 58-51, but their stats based on their status were pretty bad. 58 points, 30.3 FG%, 4-18 on threes for 22.2%, 14-24 for 58.4% on FT's, 14 turnovers and 11 assists. Definately a contender.
Notre Dame was upset by No. 22 North Carolina 60-50, who came into this game on a four game losing streak and playing their worst basketball. But the Irish were not up to the occasion. Only scoring 50 points, shooting 28.1% from the field, 2-22 on threes for 9.1%, 19 turnovers and only 7 assists.
Pretty bad for top teams, right?
So, it's my blog and my award. They win!!!!!!!! Congrats to the Gamecocks and the Irish.

So in my last blog, I said that No. 22 North Carolina had their fourth consecutive loss after starting the season 9-1. And being 0-3 in the ACC is a problem. I predicted they would drop out of the top 25. But after upsetting No. 4 Notre Dame I expect that they will stay in the Top 25. An impressive defensive effort against the Irish.

I gave No. 1 South Carolina the UGGY and they really deserved it. But it's offensive struggles have been ongoing this season. I can't imagine them not being upset somewhere along the line and maybe earlier in the NCAA tournament than expected. They certainly are not as good as last year's championship team.

There were a few upsets but also a couple of close calls.
No. 2 Stanford squeaked by unranked California 60-56 behind 25 points, 17 rebounds from Cameron Brink.
No. 12 UCLA came back from a 12 point fourth quarter deficit to beat USC 61-60.
No. 3 Ohio State was down 17 points earlier in the game but beat Illinois 87-81.
Lots of parity in WCBB this year. So much fun to watch.
Now I think I'll go watch the replay of the Notre Dame loss.
