GO UCONN!!!!!

**********************************************

Another game I didn't get to see. I'm so friggin' busy here in Florida.

However, the score was around what I predicted. I believe I said the MOV would be 45+ and it was 46.

A few scorecard observations.

- UConn had 31 assists on 36 baskets. A passing exhibition.
- Nika had 11 of those 31 assists.
- UConn had a 32-0 run. Really.
- Paige was Paige. 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal
- Xavier had 18 points in the first 3 quarters and 22 points in the 4th quarter.
- Edwards had another double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
- Ice Brady had her FIRST double double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. She was also 5-5 from the field.
- Shade had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Arnold had 8 points, 5 assists and 5 steals.
- Q had a nice game with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
- UConn had 5 players with double digit scoring
- Paige and Edwards had only 26 and 22 minutes.

Ok, the game was against a terrible Xavier team. But it helped to get the stink of that South Carolina game.

Up next is a rematch against Georgetown on Friday. They beat the Hoyas 83-55 in the first matchup.

Yes, I'm busy again. Hosting a pool party at my son's house while he is away. Yes, I get to trash his house to make up for the parties he had as a teen when we were away!!! So, No watching the game and probably not a very long blog.

Straight from the Dog

"Also, I’ve gotten 3 notifications about a shot Bueckers hit in practice. Pretty lame when you don’t have any in game highlights good enough so they start using practice footage to gas you up.

I’m team “Bueckers is a Bust.”"

The Orange Morons strike again.

First of all, that practice shot was just f(king amazing.

And as always, there are always game highlights, especially of the amazing Paige Bueckers. Even in a loss.

Paige Highlights from SC game

And more - "I swear, if Paige gets named 1st team AA. Even 2nd team AA might be a stretch for her with the competition she has at G with Clark, Hidalgo, Watkins, Sheldon, etc. I'd have to think that UConn's luster has already worn off."

Sigh....such UConn hate. Of course Clark is a 1st team AA.

Hidalgo and Watkins are terrific players. But it's rare that freshman make 1st team AA. Great stats for both of them but they are both volume shooters both averaging 20+ shots per game. Paige takes only around 13 per game. Sheldon is good but not as good as Bueckers.

Paige will be first team AA. 20 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 4.0 APG, only 36 turnovers. Shoots 54.1% from the field, 44.1% on threes, 83.8% FT%, 2 SPG, 1 BPG. Just a complete player..

I'm rooting for a 50 point South Carolina win Thursday night over Tennessee.

NCAA wants to erase Paige from our memories

Milestone watch

• Aaliyah Edwards reached 1658 career points with her 16 points in the Xavier game. She is in sole possession of 21st place, and needs 16 points to tie countrymate Kia Nurse.

• Aaliyah Edwards now has 914 rebounds with 10 against Xavier. She passed Swin Cash moved into 12th place, and needs one more to tie Kerry Bascom.

• Nika Mühl had 597 assists after her 11 assists in the Xavier game. She is in 6th place and needs 2 more to tie Crystal Dangerfield.

SPIDER STATS

Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.

UConn 134, Xavier 7.

Net positives/minutes played: Paige 28/26, Ice 27/24, Aaliyah 21/22, Nika 20/23, KK 15/30, Qadence 13/23, Ashlynn 13/32, Ines -1/13, Amari -3/7.

Hopefully Ice builds on this! You can see, unfortunately, why Geno has said there will only be 7 contributors.

Since doggy daddy says Kara reads his blog, here’s a story. I grew up at the Palestra and saved many programs going back to 1958. Some time before 2013, I brought one with a photo of Willie (or Willi) Wolters of Boston College on the cover to a game and gave it to Kara. I hope she, her children and her father got a kick out of that!

In reading a bit, I discovered that Kara’s father, who became an attorney, was born in Germany in 1944 and came to the USA in 1955. Not unlike Geno from Italy. Wonder if they bonded over that?
