GO UCONN!!!!!

The Boys and their Dogs -
Under the UConn blanket!!

Dinner with Cousins!!!

Well, that was a fun game to watch. Let me get out of the way. I said "UConn won the first matchup this season by 37 points. I predicted a 35 point win in the first game. I'll go with that again. UConn by 35+"

And again it was 37 points. Yay me!!

Ok enough about me. It's all about the team. And they were a great team Sunday. They were off some on their three point shooting, only hitting them at a 27% clip. I'll chalk that up to tough rims, and 5 days between games and 2 off days from practice. Yes that's my story!

To me, this was as quick as I have seen the UConn players. They really looked rejuvinated. Off the defensive boards they just tore down the court leaving DePaul players in their wake. It was so great to see.

UConn had all 5 starters score double digits. Paige led the way with 30 points and Aaliyah had 23 points and a career high 17 rebounds.

The Huskies won the battle of the boards by 8, always a positive stat for UConn.

Up next is Villanova in Storrs. It's the final home game of the regular season and is sold out!! Wednesday, 2/28 at 7:00 PM. SNY will be carrying the game.

Here are a few Tweets (screw X) that are fun to watch.

Rip Hamilton number gets retired

Rip is one of my favorites players of all time. And this ceremony was so wonderful!! UConn's first men's championship was just something special. And beating that giant of a team Duke was just frosting on the cake. Thank you Rip and congrats!!!

More great UConn alumni news!!! Congrats to Shea!!

I did get to watch a game where I would have been happy with either team losing but that meant one of them had to win. So it was a tough choice.

The Hated Lady Vols made a game of it against No. 13 LSU until a late run by the Tigers put the game away with LSU taking it 75-60. It was a really poorly played game by both teams..

Some of the numbers are just crazy. I guess I'm used to seeing UConn shoot around 60 shots in a game. In this one LSU shot the ball 87 times and Tennessee shot the ball 74 times. LSU had 56 rebounds, Tennessee had 53. Those numbers are a product of some really bad shooting.

LSU shot 33% from the field, Tennessee shot 31%.
LSU was 6-15 on threes, Tennessee was 3-18.

Some really poor performances by some individuals.

Jewell Spear went 2-12 from the field and 0-4 on threes. She is not this superstar that some UT fans think she is.

Their other guard, Jasmine Powell, was 3-17 from the field and 0-4 on threes. She really took them out of the game with some poor shooting decisions.

There were long stretches where neither team could score a basket. Typical SEC basketball. Only 28 assists between both teams.

I guess I'm happy that Tennessee lost. They will still probably make the tournamet but with a season ending game against South Carolina and then the SEC tournament where they could meet LSU or South Carolina again, I'm guessing they could end up a 10 seed. A terrible path for the Lady Vols to even make the Sweet 16. Heck, they could lose in the first round. Music to my ears.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now what? There were 4 upsets in the Top Ten with NC State, USC, Oregon State and Kansas State all losing. What were their seeds?

NC State had dropped to a 2 seed after losing to unranked UNC. So they lose their next game to unranked Duke. Do they drop to a 3 seed? I think after back to back losses to unranked teams, a 4 seed should be their level.

USC lost to No. 22 Utah. They were a 2 seed. Do they drop to a 3 seed? I would think so.

Virginia Tech was a 3 seed. They might drop to a 4 seed.

And Kansas State was a 4 seed. Do they lose that home court advantage by dropping to a 5 seed?

Massey ahd NET both have UConn as No. 2. No, not a 2 seed, No. 2 in the country. Period. How they can't be a 2 seed now would be beyond me. Personally I think they should be a 1 seed.

SPIDER STATS

Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.

UConn 123, DePaul 39.

Net positives/minutes played: Aaliyah 33/31, Paige 29/33, Nika 19/33, Ashlynn 10/32, KK 8/22, Ice 7/22, Qadence 4/16, Ines 3/8, Amari 0/3.

Season: Paige 640/884, Aaliyah 620/870, Nika 327/896, Ashlynn 291/836, KK 240/841, Qadence 115/352, Ice 84/464, Ines 23/127, Amari 14/109. (Aubrey 195/308, Azzi 9/61, Caroline 7/58)

How’s about those layups through contact by Paige. A couple good things from Ines and Amari. My Evanston family was there rooting for UConn on tickets I got them. Go UConn, beat Villanova.

Both net and Massey have UConn number two. Let’s just hope for an Albany placement.
