Straight from the Dog
Some fans just love the flavor of the day. And after her amazing 51 point game, Juju Watkins of USC is the latest. Some call her a generational player. I say that is really premature. Don't get me wrong, she is a terrific talent. But her season so far is not quite all that.
Her 36% three point shooting is eleveated by three game where she was 6-8 against Le Moyne, 4-6 against UC Riverside and a great 6-11 against Stanford. That's 16-25. For the other games, she 23-83. That's 27.7%.
In 6 games she shot 50% or better and in 12 games she was under 50%. In 8 of her last 10 games she was under 40% from the floor.
She is shooting a ton of shots averaging almost 22 shots a game. That is what in spite of shooting only 43% she is averaging 27 PPG. Her free throw shooting has been great. She does get to the line a ton, 7+ times a game.
Someone wrote that she is better than Bueckers and Clark.
I say efficiency matters. Passing matters.
Watkins - 33 MPG, 43% FG%, 36% 3PT%, 27.2 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 59 assists, 65 turnovers, 48 steals, 29 blocks.
Clark - 33.3 MPG, 48% FG%, 40% 3PT%, 32.1 PPG, 7 RPG, 170 assists, 95 turnovers, 38 steals, 12 blocks.
Bueckers - 29 MPG, 54.8% FG%, 47.4 3PT%, 20.0 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 84 assists, 28 turnovers, 51 steals, 24 blocks.
Iowa has the 4th SOS, UConn has the 1st SOS and USC has the 8th SOS according to Massey.
I'd take both Clark and Bueckers over Watkins. This year. Watkins might surpass them in her future seasons.

Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.
Charles Dickens tale of two cities: it was the best of times it was the worst of times.
Spider tale of two halves: it was the worst of halves it was the best of halves.
Second half defense swarmed and helped like in the streak of blowouts. Nika great, KK played well, Ice looked better. Shouldn’t Q play a bit more?
UConn 98 Villanova 42. Olsen 4.
Nika 23/39, Aaliyah 22/34, Paige 20/39, KK 12/29, Ice 5/14, Ashlynn 5/36, Amari 2/1, Qadence 2/7, Ines 1/1. All positive.
Late had to watch men’s game. UConn: must see tv!
