GO UCONN!!!!!

I'm a little distracted today. We put our home in Bloomfield on the Market and we are becoming Florida residents! There was an open house on Saturday and there were several showings after and some Sunday. It's a little nerve racking. We are in Florida while this is happening. Our realtor will be calling tonight hopefully with some offers. So, excuse the brevity in the Sunday night blog.

I'm sure this is not the way Geno expected this game to roll out. First, I have to give St. John's credit. They played the Huskies tough in the first quarter, only down 21-17. However, UConn pulled away, outscoring the Johnnies 21-12 in the second quarter  to take a 42-29 lead.

Paige hit a three pointer out of the gate in the third quarter and then the Huskies took a 49-31 lead on 2 free throws and a jumper by Edwards. It was 57-37 with 2:40 left in the quarter, but more credit to St. John's, the went on a 12-3 run to close to 60-49.

There's more. St. John's scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to close to to 7 points and it looked like a game. Paige said "uh, uh" and scored the next 7 points to restore a 14 point lead. The Huskies were never threatened again with St. John's oinly closing to 9 points a few times before the final of 78-63.

This was basically the Paige and Aaliyah show for the Huskies. Unusual for no one else to contribute more points but sometimes you have to rely on your stars. And boy did they come through. They had 59 points between them and 18 of UConn's 19 fourth quarter points. Wow!

Paige played 36 minutes, scored 26 points and was 9-17 from the field. Only 1-3 on threes, she was 7-7 from the FT line. She also had 5 rebounds and 3 assists. And an unusually sloppy 5 turnovers.

Aaliya was player of the game. In her 39 minutes she scored a career high 33 points on 12-20 shooting. She really ran the court well. She added 13 rebounds and 4 steals. A terrific game.

Still struggling with foul trouble, Nika only played 33 minutes. Yeah I know, a slacker. But one more great assist game with 9. Some real beauties. She also had 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Another solid game.

Up next is the rematch with Seton Hall, another home game. UConn beat them on the Pirates home court 83-59. Pregame Reports soon.

That's all I got my friends. I'll add some videos and links and then I'm on pins and needles wating for that phone call!!!

Straight from the Dog

HUGE NEWS!!!!!!!

So, how will this impact the game when UConn takes on the Gamecocks? I believe it will certainly make the game more competative. The Huskies can match up pretty well with the other players but when Cardoso is in the game, it's a real issue. Look for more details soon in the UConn/South Carolina Pregame Report.

SPIDER STATS

Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.

UConn 84, St. John’s 41.

Net positives/minutes played: Aaliyah 38/39, Paige 22/36, Nika 12/33, KK 5/39, Ice 4/10, Ashlynn 3/36, Amari 0/1, Ines 0/1, Qadence -2/5.

Aaliyah’s 38 tops this year so far. Get 1200 Wednesday. Survive South Carolina. Win regular season big East. Win big East tournament. Win two NCAA games in Storrs.

Beyond that, gravy.
