Fun day in Sunny Florida. Spent several hours on the beach and then went to the Coconut Creek Casino to have dinner at their deli (great corned beef sandwich) and then saw the Golden Boys, Bobby Rydell, Fabian and Frankie Avalon.
I thought that this event would be really good or really bad. Well, it was a little of each. I loved the banter with the crowd by all three of these icons. They talked about aging and then sang some of their hits. The drummer while Frankie Avalon sang was one of his sons. And the guitar player was Don Everly of the Everly brother's son. That was pretty cool.
The best part of the show was the audience. The older women that were swooning over these crooners were worth the price of admission. They would run too the stage to take pictures and when Frankie Avalon walked around the audience, I thought he was going to be smothered to death. It was great!!!
Alica Froling, their 6'3" forward, is the best player on SMU and a terrific one at that. She is averaging a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. But don't expect her to come close to those numbers against the Huskies. They only have one other player in double digit scoring.
This team will be a little different conference opponent for UConn. They are really big starting 6'3" and 6'2" with 6'6" and 6'5" coming off the bench.
They have a problem taking care of the ball. They average almost 20 turnovers per game and only 13 assists per game.
No. 91 in a row is a lock. I'll say UConn by 55.

UConn's interchangeable parts - From David
Several times recently, when watching my favorite basketball team, I have had to look close to see which player made that last great rebound or awesome twisting lay up. Yes, I'm older and wear glasses, but that isn't the problem. And no, even at Bokamper's, I rarely finish my one light beer. The issue is interchangeable parts.... sometimes Gabby looks/plays like Pheesa and often Kia passes/shoots like Saniya. Or the other way around..
And when they are defense, forgetaboutit.... The first USF possession, there were 6 defensive switches by UConn, on and off the ball, and USF never got off a shot..!! Not even a lousy shot..!! It looked like Geno had started the game with 7 players. While each of the four pictured above has specialties on defense, and obviously on offense, they are basically interchangeable parts. UConn losses nothing when switching on defense and opponents can't start even their basic pick and rolls, screens or cuts. And you can include that tall girl from California in this formula...
The 1st half of the USF game was a defensive clinic. USF made only 9 baskets and had 7 shots blocked. USF had just 1 assist, but gave up 12 turnovers. Their 19 points would have been a decent quarter, except it was for the whole half. UConn committed 1 foul, blocked the 7 shots and stole 6 passes. I'm still not sure who did what of all that...but it was impressive..!! Definitely interchangeable parts..
Go Huskies..!!

By David in Naples!!!!!
There is something very odd about tonight's Fun with Numbers.
Consider:
1. UConn has scored 1,243 points this season
2. The leading scorer, KLS, has 301 points. Right behind her is Pheesa with 289.
3. The Huskies have 145 steals, led by Gabby with 41.
4. As a team, UConn has 327 assists, opponents only 151.
5. UConn has made 467 baskets on 909 attempts for 51%.
6. Total rebounds..? Yup, 571, including 397 at the defensive end.
7. Their record is 15 wins, no losses.
8. Kia Nurse has played an average of 33.7 minutes per game, to lead the team.
9. Even turnovers are odd at 209. But, that is better than opponents with 275.
It figures that on Saturday, UConn will try to win their 91st straight game. Very odd indeed...
Go Huskies..!!
