An even better day of golf Wednesday. 39-39-78. Started with a birdie! Same weather as Tuesday. Not a cloud in the sky and 80 degrees. Then a few hours at the beach.

Don't hate me.

Maybe No. 23 South Florida doesn't deserve to be ranked? Wednesday night they barely beat a weak SMU team 52-51. Their big scorer Laksa took 26 shots in scoring 28 points, over half of USF's points. No other Bull had double digit scoring.

Do they drop out after losing to Louisville and only winning by one over SMU? I'd drop them a few spots.

Local fourth grade basketball player Sania Richardson

I linked an article about a 10 year old basketball phenome who is ranked No. 1 for her age group.

Wow. First of all, I had no idea that ten year olds were ranked. Really? Who has the time to watch ten year olds play basketball? Crazy.

The article itself was interesting. She really is an amazing player. Seems to have a good head on her shoulder.

Here is why I linked it.

The end game for the Richardson family and Sania is to sharpen her skills to the point of attaining an athletic scholarship to a major university. Sania’s dream is to attend the University of Connecticut, home to one of the top women’s college basketball programs in the country.

“I would have good coaches if I went to UConn (University of Connecticut),” Sania said. “Geno Auriemma is the best coach in college. He has a really good team. Moriah Jefferson is my star player. I look up to her. She used to go to UConn. Now she plays in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association). I went to one of UConn’s game, I talked to Coach Geno. It was really cool seeing and talking to him.”

Yep.....she wants to come to UConn. And she went to a UConn game and talked to Geno. I'm sure the complaints will be heading to the NCAA's about illegal contact by the Huskies. Now who would do that???

Sometimes the UConn hate is so thick you could cut it with a knife.  And the internet gives anyone a chance to share that hate with as many people as possible

There is great example I just read on a UConn message board. A particular well known blogger of college recruiting information Raoul (don't you just love blogger names? This won is not as cool as DoggyDaddy) felt the need to post this after UConn's win over East Carolina.

First he retweets this - "Not just a Baylor thing, eh? Box score also shows 3 UConn starters played 30+ mins.; score was 72-30 at end of 3Q. "

Then he tweets this - "Should note that UConn was already up by 37 by the middle of the 3rd quarter; despite that, one player totaled 35 minutes, another 34."

So, I said to myself, ok......he was just trying to show that UConn was similar to Baylor in this blowout of ECU. You remember that Baylor game...don't you? Where they beat Winthrop 140-32 in the biggest spread in NCAA history?

Then he tweets this - "the funny thing now are all the UConn fans who criticized Baylor about that game"

Now it's clear. He doesn't like UConn fans. He didn't like how so many, including me, wrote about how disgusting that margin of victory was. So now, he tries to use this East Carolina game as a way to disparage UConn fans. Despite his missing a word, (I think he meant to post "where" are all the UConn fans)  his point is just so wrong on so many levels.

1. Here is the obvious. How is a game where Baylor won by a score of 140-32 anywhere near the same as a game where UConn won by a score of 91-44. Baylor took 95 shots, UConn took 63. As my good friend Meyers said, you really have to work to score 140 points. I'd add you really have to work to take 95 shots.

2. Yes, UConn had three players with 30+ minutes and two with 34 and 35 minutes. Fact. But UConn only has 9 players and Lawlor only sees a few minutes every game that  means when Geno plays his three bottom of the bench not including Lawlor, TWO starters are in the game. While Dangerfield is out, that mean Chong gets a ton of minutes. In fact, since Dangerfield has been out, Chong has led UConn in minutes. This game was no exception. So even Raoul understand, that means that the FIFTH best player on the team is getting the most minutes. The other player with big minutes in this game was Gabby Williams and everyone but Raoul must have noticed that she was kept in the game to get that last elusive assist for her triple-double.

3. UConn scored 28, 18, 26, and 19 points in their four quarters. How on earth is that comparable to the 38, 39, 34 and 29 points that Baylor scored in their four quarters.

4. Compare the two opponents. East Carolina is not a great team, but they would beat Winthrop easily. Winthrop right now is 2-17, winning their first game of the season, then losing 17 straight games before winning in their last game against Longwood. Longwood?

Baylor deserved all the shit they got for that game. They might have played 12 players double digit minutes but they never stopped running and quick shooting. You don't put up 95 shots without pressing and running. Geno pulls back after a big lead, especially in the fourth quarter. You can't see that in a box score and that is apparently all that Raoul looked at.

Don't hate.....respect!

By David in Naples!!!!!

Some times the Fun with Numbers writes itself.
1. Last night, in UConn's rout of East Carolina, the baskets scored by each player were 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Now, no one made three total baskets, but Kia and Katie Lou each had three threes. Counting down from the highest total, Pheesa had 8 baskets, Gabby 7, Kia 6, KLS 5, Natalie 4, Kyla 2 and Saniya 1. Those baskets and 18 free throws gave UConn a convincing 91-44 win.

2. Gabby's record setting, triple double night had the following numbers: 16, 16, 10, 10 and 10.
Points = 16
Rebounds = 16
Assists = 10
Offensive rebounds = 10
Shots taken = 10

3. Last night 3s were running wild.
Kia and KLS had 3 threes each.
Kyla and Natalie had 3 free throws each.
Three players, Saniya, KLS & Molly, had 3 assists each.
Pheesa had 3 blocks, 3 turnovers and Saniya had 3 points.
Katie Lou also had 3 turnovers and Saniya had 3 rebounds.

Great win on the road, lots of Fun Numbers..!!

Go Huskies..!!
