My son has really turned into a great cook. Tonight he made Chioppino, a seafood in broth dish. It was amazing, even when served on his Hanukkah tablecloth.
For dessert my wife and granddaughter made "dirt". It's crumbled cake mixed with pudding and cool whip in a plant holder with blended Oreo cookies on top to look like dirt. And plastic flowers. It looks great and tasted better.

UConn beat up on Tulane in a real physical game 100-56. I loved how UConn gave as much as they received in the tough play.
Here is a brief post game analysis. I hope to have a full one later. I can't promise.
I don't know if you read Carl Adamec's write up on Samuelson. It was really good and I suggest you find it in yesterday's blog and read it. One quote in the article was by Geno who said that in rating Samuelson she was playing at a 3 out of 10. That there is so much more she will show us.
Well, I bet if you asked Geno now he might move it to a 4 out of 10. Seriously, she was just so good. Not so good in the first quarter. For the first time this season, she was scoreless in that quarter. 0-4 from the field and 0-2 on threes. But over the next two quarters? One of the best performances I've ever seen by a UConn player. She scored 32 points in those 10 minutes. She scored 18 points in the second quarter and 3 steals, playing both sides of the ball. In the third quarter she scored 14 points, 4 rebounds, and another 3 steals. Amazing.
The new iron woman is Sanyia Chong. She played 38 minutes in this one. I'm sure she will be happy when Dangerfield comes back. She could use the rest.
Gabby Williams played a tough game. At one point, she was smacked in the mouth by a Tulane player with an "inadvertent" forearm. She went out of the game and to the locker room. But of course, she reentered the game with a fat lip. She still managed to hand out 6 assists. And several left handed drives to the basket. Her unstoppable move.
I could go on, but I'll save some for the full post game report.
I think I'll go watch the game again. I was a great one!!

No. 6 Notre Dame beat North Carolina 77-55 in a game that was close for one quarter. I thought that North Carolina looked like they might compete in this game, but as good as they were for the 1st quarter, they were just as bad in the second quarter. Notre Dame used that quarter to keep a good sized lead the entire game.
Briana Turner is a tough player inside. She has great post moves and her hard drives to the basket are difficult to stop. She had 24 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 6 blocks. But she has no outside game. She has to develop that part of her game for the next level.

No. 3 Maryland was able to beat Rutgers at home 80-71 behind another double-double by Brionna Jones. This game had no business being this close. Rutgers came into this game with a record of 6-14 and the Terps were expected to beat them by 30+ points. They used the third quarter to build a big enough lead to make Rutger's late rally inconsequential.

I hope the voters in the polls noticed the spanking that No. 7 Florida State put in No. 18 Virginia Tech. Now, I will say that I wrote about Virginia Tech being overrated and after the Duke game where they lost 83-59 and this game where they lost 82-54, it certainly backs my opinion on the Hokies. But the way that FSU is beating team, my crusade to get them in the top 5 is going to pay off eventually.

No. 14 Miami is a strange team. Sunday, they got destroyed by Syracuse 81-48. I don't know, how the hell does a top 15 team lose to an unranked (although decent) team like the Orange by 23 points? It helps when a player has a career night like Brittney Sykes did with 29 points and 11 rebounds. But to score only 48 points? That SU zone must have totally confused Miami. Embarrassing.

By David in Naples!!!!!
The Naples Scoring Efficiency Index was recently introduced to answer the age old question, "Is the player who scores the most points the best player on the court?" The answer, of course, is it depends how many shots they took. For example, Katie Lou scored 32 points on 24 combined shots and free throws in tonight's victory over Tulane. She was +8 tonight on the index. Kolby Morgan had 22 points for Tulane, but took 21 combined shots and free throws. That makes her +1 in scoring efficiency.
Napheesa had 17 points on 14 scoring opportunities, so she finished +3. Kia Nurse went for 18 on 16 shots, +2 and Saniya had 9 points on 8 opportunities, +1. Gabby was even after using 13 shots and free throws to score 13 points.
So, were KLS and Pheesa the best players tonight? Yes, of course..!
Go Huskies..!!
