I had a wonderful time today with my lovey wife. We walked around downtown Delray and did a little shopping before having lunch at "The Office" a really fun restaurant. My wife said I am officially a southerner now. I had fried chicken and waffles with sausage and bacon gravy with two fried eggs. Boy, was that good!!!
Then Saturday evening we went to see LA LA Land. It was a fun movie. A throwback to the old romantic musical movies of the past. I love that stuff.
And Sunday is a special day for my wife and I. We had our first date, a blind one at that on January 15, 1972. That's 45 years ago. I remember going to her friend's (who was dating a friend of mine) house on a double date and having spaghetti and meatballs. Exciting, huh. But believe it or not, when my friend and I drove away after the date I said to him that I was going to marry that girl. And exactly 2 years and 10 months later that is exactly what I did.
I am such a lucky man!!!!

Ok....back to basketball.
What a surprise. UConn beat up on SMU 88-48. I should be able to put together a post game report so I'll be brief.
91 consecutive wins. What an incredible accomplishment. They should breeze up to 99 before meeting South Carolina on February 13th to try to make an even 100.
In this game, UConn jumped out to a 21-0 lead and a 24-2 first quarter. Then something happened over the first 6 minutes of the second quarter. UConn missed every open shot they took. And boy were they open. It was just shocking to see. Shots they have been making all season were just jumping out of the rim. UConn was outscored 16-7 in those 6 minutes. Then it clicked again as UConn ran out to an 11-0 run to end the half to take a 44-18 lead.
The second half was UConn extending the lead in the third quarter and running out the clock in the fourth quarter. Not that UConn didn't put out maximum effort. But when Geno pulls back the reigns, that is how the game usually plays out.
Samuelson scored 20 in the first half, ending with a team high 28 points. Both Williams and Collier had double doubles. Gabby scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds along with 6 assists 5 steals and 2 blocks. Napheesa scored 19 points and had a career high 16 rebound and 6 blocks.
More in the post game report.

No. 20 South Florida bounced back after that embarrassing effort against UConn, beating up on East Carolina 79-48. They scored 35 points in the first half, almost equaling their entire amount against UConn.
They were led by their three top scorers. Pujol had 23, Jesperson had 20 and Laksa had 20.

Maryland came back from a 47-43 halftime deficit against a really average Iowa team to win going away 98-82. For some reason Walker-Kimbrough came off the bench, but she scored 22 points. Brionna Jones led the Terps again with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The freshman Slocum continued her good play with 14 points and 6 assists. But she did have four turnovers and her three point percentage is dropping with a 2-6 effort.
In a pretty unimpressive Big 10, they will run the table with the only possible loss against Ohio State on the road on February 20th.
