ESPN PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Well, here we go. Yesterday Paige was named 1st team AA by ESPN.

And Friday, she was named National Player of the Year. As a freshman. Amazing.

There will be more. Now that ESPN has broken the ice for a national award for Bueckers, I could see her winning  the Wooden, Naismith and Associated Press awards. She could have won the Wade award but freshmen are not eligible.

It's just amazing that a player that was the best player in high school just a season ago is now the best player in college in her first year.

How far can she take this UConn team? That will be her legacy.

Saturday's Big Ten final between No. 7 Maryland and unranked Iowa should be a barn burner.

Maryland is just playing at a really high level and destroyed Northwestern 85-52. It was really ugly. The freshman Reese is playing great since coming back from her foot injury and had a double double in this game. She has really impacted the Terps. They are a really well rounded team. They had 6 players in double figures and one with 9 points. They really spread the scoring around. Tough to defend that.

Iowa is not playing like an unranked team. Since losing to Maryland 111-93 on 2/23 they have won 6 out of 7 games, scoring 80+ points in almost all of them. Led by precocious freshman, Caitlin Clark, and 6'3" junior Monika Czinano, the Hawkeyes are a fun team to watch.

Look for another high scoring affair. Just buckle up!!

You know I like to read the Tennessee fan board Volnation.com  for fun and entertainment. Well, they didn't let me down.

Someone started a thread in order to get the Tennessee fans to vote for their talented senior Rennia Davis for the Senior CLASS Award. It's not the more prestigious award and I have no idea how players even qualify for it. But hey, who am I to make fun of that award? Even though there are a few players I've never heard of on the list. Here is the link. Senior CLASS Award

I think it's great that the fans vote for their players. But Tennessee fans just have to win something this year, so what do they do? They stuff the ballot box. They are freaking out that the player from Maine Blanca Millan had a lead for a while. Here is a few comments from that thread.

"Voted 15 times Maine got something going hard to keep them down."

"UConn fans must be voting for this Maine girl..its the only logical conclusion I can come up with"

"Another 15 small lead but better than early this morning."

"Who is this girl from Maine and how many people live in Maine she has quite a following."

"its the connies obviously.....or maybe even the chicken fanbase voting for her"

"I've voted 100 times. after the game Rennia Davis had tonight I'll give her another 100 volts. As always go Lady Vol's"

"this Maine girl must be committing voter fraud at this point 🙄"

Ok....this thread is 6 pages and climbing. And they get crazier and crazier.

So, if you are bored and have nothing to do, hit the link vote for the Maine girl!!!! Kidding!!! Maybe!

How about some bad stats for UConn for a change of pace?
Consider:

1. Saylor is 1-10 from three point range. That's 10%.
2. UConn has 362 turnovers or 14.5 per game.
3. Evina has 128 rebounds, but only 13 are offensive.
4. Christyn has missed 163 shots and made 151.
5. Paige has 62 turnovers in 24 games.
6. The Huskies have only scored 100+ points 3 times this season.
7. UConn has missed 107 free throws.

Ok, pretty minor stuff compared to the great stats put up during this 24-1 season.

Go Huskies..!!

Crazy year

We all know it has been a crazy year but the quarterfinals for the Big Ten epitomized it:
• Maryland expected to win by 16 over Nebraska, only won by 10
• Michigan expected to win by 4, LOST by 16
• Indiana expected to win by 9, LOST by 8
• Rutgers expected to win by 5, LOST by 11

Every single favorite under performed expectations, with three of the four expected winners actually losing. The cumulative under performance by the favorites was 59 points or almost 15 per game
