and then watch some of the UConn game on Saturday

In one of the least surprising results you can imagine, Paige Bueckers won both the BE Freshman of the year and Player of the year. Only Maya Moore has done that in the history of the Big East.

From the Big East article - A seven-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week and five-time USBWA national weekly award winner, Bueckers enters the postseason averaging 19.8 points, a BIG EAST-best 6.2 assists and 2.4 steals per contest. On the national level, her assists average ranks ninth among all Division I players, while her scoring clip is second-best among freshmen. The rookie boasts the nation’s fifth-best three-point shooting average (.476) and has scored 30 or more points three times, and 20 or more points 10 times. Over 17 BIG EAST contests, Bueckers averaged 19.5 points (ranked second), 6.6 assists (first), and 2.1 steals (fourth). She is the only player in the BIG EAST to rank in the top four in all three of those categories. Bueckers becomes the 18th Husky to garner BIG EAST Player of the Year honors and 13th to claim Freshman of the Year recognition. She was unanimously selected as Freshman of the Year.

UConn won several other awards.

Congrats to all the players who were recognized!!!

Pre-Big East Interviews

Guess who's back!!!!!

Well, this is about the best news this team could get coming into the post season. Anna Makurat, the Polish Rifle, has gotten clearance to play again and Geno said he will try to get her close to 10 minutes in UConn's first game in the Big East tournament against the winner of the Xavier and St. John's.

I would be it won't be token minutes either. She started 6 of the 9 games she played and while she won't start, she will get minutes with the regular rotation.

Geno loves her game, her ability to facilitate and when she is on, she is a terrific three point shooter. I don't think we will see the tentative Anna and more the aggressive Anna that was so good the last half of the 2019-20 season.

What a boost for UConn. This really good team just got better.

It's that time of year, and that means it's time for me to change how I report on the games.

I'll try to show results of games that everyone is interested in. That means the major conference tournaments, the Big East Tournament and since UConn is just out of the AAC, I'll show results from that tournament as well.

I had been doing a condensed paragraph for  the Top 25 games. I can't do that for all of these games, so I'll post a link about each game.

I'll still have David's stats, any conference or national awards stuff and other things that I find interesting.

Hope this helps you all follow what's going on. Enjoy!!

This Saturday, UConn plays the winner of St. John's vs Xavier. I prefer that the Huskies play Xavier. The Huskies played both teams twice this season, winning all four games. The first Xavier game was not close, with a final score of 106-59. The first St. John's game was not as much of a blow-out with a score of 94-62.

Interestingly, the 2nd game against both teams were back to back on February 17th & 20th. UConn cranked up the defense and held both teams to 32 points while scoring 77 and 83. Against St. John's, Leilani Correa was held to 2 points on 1-10 shooting. In the 1st game, she torched UConn for 33 on 11-21 shooting. She is dangerous and UConn would be better off not facing her again. She will have revenge on her mind. The high scorers for Xavier only had 11 and 10 points in the 2 games and Xavier went 0-16 from three the last time they played UConn.

The format of the conference tournament favors UConn greatly. Not only do the bottom dwellers of the Big East have to play each other for the "reward" of playing UConn, but they have to do so the very next night. Play a tough game and you get a rested UConn the next day. Yikes..!!

Go Huskies..!!
