Thursday night is SEC night for women's college basketball. I'd like to tell you that there was some mighty fine basketball played in the five conference games tonight. I'd like to but I can't.
I guess some of the lack of scoring could have to do with the great defense played by these teams. But more likely it's just bad offense. Take a look at the numbers from tonight's games.
I have to give LSU and Mississippi State credit for their high scoring affair. 71-69 is a lot of scoring. Of course, it took two overtimes to get there as it was 53-53 after regulation. FIFTY turnovers combined. And 15th ranked Mississippi State has now lost two consecutive games to lower lever SEC teams in LSU and Vanderbilt. Yes, the same Vanderbilt UConn beat 91-52.
No. 10 Kentucky 62 Florida 56 in the regulation highest scoring game of the evening. Kentucky was 3-22 on three pointers and Florida had 27 turnovers.
No. 6 Tennessee had their lowest scoring game of the season, beating Auburn 54-42. Just an all around blah game. I suppose Tennessee fans will talk about the great defense they play. But it was Auburn. AUBURN.
Thanks to Missouri fouling them on every possession, South Carolina scored 11 points from the foul line the last two minutes propelling them to 60 points. This is the #1 team?
Here are the scores at the end of regulation for the five games.
53-53, 55-52, 54-42, 62-56. And all of these games had ranked teams playing in them.
Best league in the county my ass.

Fun game tonight with Notre Dame defeating North Carolina 89-79 behind the fantastic game by Super-Freshman Brianna Turner. Turner scored 29 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and slapped away 7 shots.
It was a game of runs, as UNC broke out to an 11 point lead at the 5:27 mark after a 15-4 run. Then Notre Dame went on a 19-5 run to end the half, grabbing a 3 point lead.
The second half was just as crazy with each team going on mini runs, Notre Dame grabbing leads as large as 12 points before UNC would close to 3 points. But behind Turner and Allen (24 points) Notre Dame went on the last run to win by ten. I think they are still the 2nd best team in the country.

In a loss to Minnesota, Freshman scoring maching, Kelsey Mitchell scored 36 points. Amazing stat is that she took TWENTY three point shots making nine of them.

Ugly Game Of The Day
I've picked on the SEC enough in this blog. I could have picked the entire conference for their games tonight. But I'll go with another power conference team.
Duke beat Virginia Tech easily tonight and VT had one doozy of an offensive, and I mean offensive game.
They shot 25% from the field, 27% on 3's and managed to score 40 points. Congrats Hokies for winning tonight's UGOTD award!!!
