Quiet night in WCBB as most Friday nights are. Only three top twenty five games but I was happy to see that Princeton at Harvard was on TV. I've been wanting to see them play.
Harvard's Temi Fagbenle, a one time UConn recruit, is a very good player. She had 13 points in this game. Long and lean, she has a great motor. She reminded me of Swin Cash without the midrange game.
I love Princeton's Blake Detrick's game. She shoots the ball like Katie Lou Samuelson with her catch and quick release from beyond the arc. She was 4-6 in this game and finished with 18 points. And she is also a very good defensive player. Constantly jumping into the passing lane for steals.
As you would expect they play smart basketball. They run a motion offense with a lot of screens and take every open three pointer. And boy, do they whip the ball around the perimeter to find the open shooter. They are a pleasure to watch.
Looking at the rest of their schedule, there isn't an Ivy league school that will come close to beating them. They are beating the ever-loving crap out of their opponents. Which means that Princeton will come into the NCAA tourney undefeated and will end the season with only one loss. Amazing.
Their only issue is size. They play 6'3" Taylor Williams and 6'2" Alex Wheatley as their main forwards and everyone else is 6' or less. But as Louisville showed Baylor a few years ago, hot 3 point shooting can beat a size advantage.

I linked an article in the UConn section where it reports that UConn will offer student-athletes enhanced scholarships aimed at covering the full cost of attending college.
It's clear this is in response to the NCAA granting the Power Five conferences, allowing them to create some of their own rules – specifically those related to student-athlete welfare issues. Full-cost-of-attendance scholarships were approved in one of the first votes by the major conferences.
The rules allow but don't require the other teams to follow the rules set by the Power Five conferences. And some schools can't afford this. The article gives the details on the dollar amounts. I'd suggest you read it. It shows that while UConn is not in a Power Five conference, they will act like they are. And any recruiting advantage a Power Five team might have because of this disappears with this decision by UConn.

Ugly Game Of The Day
In staying with the Ivy League theme, we had the winner of the Uggy coming from the Pennsylvania Dartmouth game.
The Quakers beat the Big Green 55-39.
39 points on 27% shooting, 17% from beyond the arc and 15 turnovers. I guess you can be ugly and smart.
Congrats Dartmouth on winning today's UGOTD award.......your very own UGGY!!!!
Honorable Mention
Georgetown University - 52 points 31% from the field, 21% on 3's, and a whopping 27 turnovers. After 4 consecutive 20 win seasons, Georgetown is falling off the face of the earth. The previous 3 seasons they got worse every year. Their record was 15-16 two years ago, 11-21 last year and they dropped to 4-17 this year after the DePaul hammering. Now THAT's UGLY!!!
