"This should be a typical 2 vs 15 game with the Huskies winning by a really large margin. I'm just interested in seeing if the starting lineup changes for the Huskies as they try to get Bueckers going early and often. A game to work on things before they take on Miami in the second round. UConn by 45+"
Right on the money!!! Just like the Huskies were in this game. Lots of good things to talk about.
The biggest thing in this game was the play of Paige Bueckers. No doubt she looked 100%, whatever that means. She played 24 minutes. That is huge. And she shot the ball well, going 5-7 from the field and 2-2 on threes. And she passed the ball well, with 5 assists. She rebounded well with 4 and she also had 2 steals and a block. Fantastic.
Everone else contributed and in a 2 vs 15 game, that is expected. Geno spread around the minutes. I would refer you to David's piece for a great look at the stats.
The defense joined the shutout club, holding Mercer to zero points in the third quarter. Just some great defense and poor shooting by Mercer.
The Huskies will play a familiar foe on Monday, Central Florida. It's like a tooth ache when you play them. They are tough and physical. UConn is 13-0 against them. That is the good news. But in their last three games, the Huskies have only scored 66, 59 and 66 points. Not good. On the other hand, UCF only scored 45, 52 and 53 points. That's a winning margin of only 21, 17 and 13 points. This game could be a tough one.

So, how did the NINE SEC teams do in the opening round?
1 Seed South Carolina won in a blow out.
7 Seed Ole Miss lost.
10 Seed Arkansas lost.
3 Seed LSU won.
6 Seed Georgia won.
4 Seed Tennessee won.
6 Seed Kentucky lost.
10 Seed Florida lost.
The overrated SEC was 4-4 in the first round.

For Friday's games, I picked 3 upsets and got them all correct. How did I do on Saturday's games?
"No. 4 Tennessee is taking on No. 13 Buffalo. Tennessee has to use their stellar defense to win with their leading scorer, Jordan Horsten, out again with her arm injury. The Bulls are on a hot streak, winning 14 of their last 15 games. Diashia Fair is the leading scorer for Buffalo at 23.4 PPG and is just the type of guard that gives Tennessee fits. Buffalo is a really good rebounding team but that is against Mid-American conference opponents. This game is a big step up. Tennessee's 6'6" Key can and should dominate the middle for the Lady Vols. but if the Bulls can hit some big threes, I can smell an upset in the making. Certainly wishful thinking on my part."
Yeah, I missed on this one, but I did say it was wishful thinking. Tennessee was just too big to Buffalo to handle.
"The Kentucky men's team was a big 2-15 upset victim. Will the No. 6 Wildcats fall to No. 11 Princeton? It is certainly possible. The Tigers are 28-4 on the season and have won 17 in a row on their way to the NCAA tournament. I'll be rooting for Carla Berube and her Princeton team to send another SEC team packing."
On fire. I'm So happy for Carla Berube and her Princeton Tigers. The Ivy League champs beat the SEC champs? Or should that be SEC chumps??? After watching this game, I really really really want Abby Meyes to play her grad year at UConn!! She is better than I thought.
"In another 6-11 matchup, the Big East's Villanova Wildcats will be looking to upset BYU. I really think this one is a good possibility. Maddy Siegrist is a handful for any team. Look with Nova to use their BE Tournament experience to help them overcome the Cougars."
Nailed this one. And got the Maddy Siegrist part right. That was easy though. She is just a great player. GO BIG EAST!!!

3. UConn had 53 rebounds vs 30 for Mercer.
4. Paige & Nika led the team with 5 assists each.

6. Dorka with a double-double (10 and 10) in just 17 minutes.
