Pre-Big East Tournament Media Availability 3/3

No video but plenty of great quotes. I could post the tweets but that would take up too much room.

Geno says Paige had a good day in practice today. While he doesn’t expect her to play any bit near a full game of minutes this weekend, he did say she’ll likely play more than 15 —which was her restriction last weekend.

Coach Auriemma on Nika Muhl: “Nika’s comfortable being that role player for us. It’s interesting how last year and this year, the team has changed significantly with Nika in the starting line up.”

Coach Auriemma on Caroline Ducharme: “She’s going to have an impact every game, one way or another.”

Coach Auriemma on Nika Muhl: “ I don’t know if you can be an exceptionally good team without those kind of player.”

Caroline Ducharme: “Once we get everyone playing their best game, we are pretty hard to beat."

Christyn Williams on the tournament:”I will probably get more aggressive... it tends to happen in the post season.”

Coach Auriemma on Muhl winning DPOY: “She was surprised, I wasn’t."

Coach Auriemma says this is the most depth he has had going in to a tournament since 2016.

Nika Muhl on being DPOY: “It’s not just an individual award, it’s a team award.”

Coach Auriemma: “I thought E (Evina) played her best basketball coming off the bench”

Coach Auriemma on Muhl winning DPOY: “She was surprised, I wasn’t. “

Coach Auriemma on Caroline Ducharme: “She’s been exceptionally consistent, that’s whats most impressive to me.”

I hear fans saying she is a Kelly Faris type with a better offense. Not bad. But she is much more like Shea Ralph to me if you are looking for a UConn player comparison.

Similar pull up jumper and tough as nails!!!

No. 24 Georgia vs Alabama - Late Game
No. 25 Georgia Tech vs Wake Forest - Late Game

Straight from the Dog

I'm feeling for Shea Ralph and her Vanderbilt team. They lost a tough one to No. 23 Florida 53-52 after being up 14 points going into the fourth quarter. But don't worry about Shea. She is a tough cookie and once she gets a little more talent, she will be kicking some SEC but including Tennessee. Looking forward to that.

It's not often I get a true UGGY game, and not just one team in a game. But I have to hand it to No. 14 Arizona and Colorado. They were really bad. Someone had to win and it was the unranked Buffaloes beating the Wildcats 45-43. Yep, 88 points total in the game. Let's look at the winners first -

Colorado, as I mentioned, scored only 45 points. They shot 32.6% from the field and were 5-17 on threes for 29.4%. Uggggh. They also had 21 turnovers. They would lose 99% of the game where this was their offensive output.

But No. 14 Arizona was that 1% victim. They only scored 43 points on 25% shooting. And they were 2-24 on threes for 8.3%. Wow. Were they shooting with their eyes closed??

As bad as they were, they were a combined 27-31 from the free throw lines. But it wsn't enough to save them from the best award on the internet. THE UGGY!!!!

The SEC had their conference awards as well and Ayalah Boston dominated, winning Player of the Year and Defensive player of the year. Well deserved. She is an amazing talent. Dawn Staley won Coach of the Year.

Of course the Orange Idiots had their take on it. Here is a few comments -

"I personally thought Tamari would get a share of the DPOY award but apparently leading the nation in blocks isn’t enough"

"Wow. What else does Tamari have to do? Tamari should have won DPOY."

"I agree with POY but TK should be DPOY. TK is breaking CPs block record for goodness sake!!"

"This is laughable. Boston is a good all around player but in no way, shape or form is she more impactful on the defensive end as Tamari. Teams completely change the way they play offense when Tamari is in the game. People are dumb /end rant"

"I wish I was a coach and had eleven high school all Americans most ranked in the top 10. I could be coach of the year."

"It would be really hilarious if lady vol fans would show up with posters or t-shirts stating Key as the DPOY alongside her photo "

"Tamari got robbed of being defensive player of the year. Totally unacceptable. Apparently leading the nation in blocks isn’t good enough. She did have several games this year with double digit blocks SEC committee! "

They also took a few shots at Shea Ralph's team giving up a fourth quarter lead in their loss to Florida.

"Ralph is a choker"

"She seems to get tight if they are up late in the game and her team responds in kind. A poster earlier today was saying how calm she seemed but I don’t pick that up at all. She seems very anxious to me. She had lamented about their inability to close games in pressers all season."

"I chuckled when they lost as well. Love to see it. A loss for both UCONN (fans) and Vandy all in one. Gotta love it!"

And you wonder why I make fun of them. Nasty folks, those Orange Idiots.

After 27 games, UConn is making 33.9% of their three point shots (188-555). Clearly, the best three point shot is Azzi Fudd at 48.3% (42-87). Interestingly, Azzi one of two players with more three point shots (87) than shots from inside the arc (65). (Nika is the other.) Here's how the other three point threats are doing:

1. Christyn - Total shots = 300. Threes = 105. She is 39-105 from three or 37.1%.
2. Caroline - Total shots = 225. Threes = 101. SHe is 29-101 or 28.7%.
3. Evina - Total shots = 210.  Threes = 98. She is 28-98 or 28.6%.
4. Nika - Total shots = 99. Threes = 64. She is 21-64 or 32.8%.
5. Paige - Total shots = 102. Threes = 29. She is 9-29 or 31%.

UConn will need all five three point shooters to get hot to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. In the most recent five game run, the Huskies were 37-102 from three range. That is 36.3%, a slight improvement over the 33.9% season average.

Go Huskies..!!
