I seem to keep writing the same thing. A little groundhog day! After a slow start the Huskies were ahead by 1 points 19-18 at the end of the first quarter. Marquette actually went ahead 29-28 with 4:13 left in the second quarter. Then Nika Muhl hit a three pointer to start a 8-0 run where UConn took a 36-29 lead. A final 13-7 run capped off by Paige Bueckers half court shot at the buzzer gave the Huskies a 49-38 lead at the half.
Paige did give everyone a big scare when she took a charge and had her knee hit by the Marquette player. I have a video linked and you can see the concern on the faces of the fans and her teammates.
UConn came out quickly in the second half outscoring the Golden Eagles 15-6 in the first 4 minutes to take a 20 points lead. It was pretty much over at that point. UConn expanded the lead to 25 points but then the offense shut off and Marquette went on an 7-0 run to close back to 18 points. It never got closer than that. UConn outscored Marquette 23-14 in the third quarter and both teams struggled to score in the fourth quarter with UConn taking the final ten minutes 13-7.
The Huskies are the only team to outrebound Marquette and did it again in this game, dominating the boards 38-28. UConn was really hot from the outside shooting 11-17 on threes. They were led by Shade shooting 3-3, Paige 4-5 and Nika 3-5.
Another great team effort. Aaliyah Edwards had another double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. All five starters had double digit scoring.
I don't think anyone is surprised with this announcement. It's heartbreaking to see it finally happening. Caroline is a great kid and a terrific teammate. I'm just hoping that she can fulfill her dream and come back next year 100%. She is a great player when healthy.
Congrats to both UConn committments for the 2024 class Morgan Cheli and Allie Ziebell on being named to the McDonald's AA team. They will both be on the west team.
I remember watching Ashlynn Shade and KK Arnold last year and they did well and showed what they would bring to the Huskies. I'm hoping we see the same from these two wonderful young women.

Milestone watch
• Aaliyah Edwards reached 1516 career points with her 18 points in the DePaul game. She reaches the1500 point milestone, passes Asjha Jones to move into 28th place, and needs 16 more points to tie Moriah Jefferson.
• Nika Mühl had 550 assists after her 7 assists in the DePaul game. That moved her past Maya Moore, Pam Webber and Kelly Faris to take sole possession of 8th place. She needs nine more to tie Bria Hartley.
• Geno Auriemma now has 1196 wins and needs four more to reach the 1200 plateau.

SPIDER STATS
Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.
