Straight from the Dog

There is no doubt that in 3-5 years when Geno finally retires, Shea will be offered the job at UConn. Will she take it? Who knows. But she is showing that she can build a team and has them playing at a higher level than anyone expected.

My buddy LInkster wrote this.

Tennessee losing - awesome
Tennessee losing to Vandy - awesomer
Tennessee losing to Vandy with Shea as coach - priceless

Caitlen Clark with another triple double, this time against Rutgers. Iowa beat up on the Scarlett Knights winning 103-69. Clark had 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. At least they didn't play her 35 minutes. The best news for Rutgers was it was a sellout crowd. Thanks to Clark.

Milestone watch

• Aaliyah Edwards had 1419 career points after the Marquette game. She scored 16 in the Creighton game to reach 1435. She now needs 9 points to tie Kalana Greene.
• Nika Mühl had 499 assists after the Marquette game. Her first assist of the game gave her 500 career assists. She ended up recording seven assists in the great game for a career total of 506 so far. She needs 25 more to tie Laura Lishness in 13th place
• Geno Auriemma now has 1191 wins and needs nine more to reach the 1200 plateau.

Aaliyah Edwards is now #31 on UConn's all-time scoring list with 1,430 points. Another 300 or so points (18 games x 17 ppg) would put her in #18 place just ahead of Kia Nurse (1,674), Shea Ralph (1,678) and Ann Strother (1,699). The #17 spot is Stef Dolson with 1,797 points.

Aaliyah's rebound total is now exactly 800 boards. Another 140 rebounds or so (18 x 8) would put her in #9 spot just ahead of Peggy Walsh (937) and behind Gabby Williams at 1,007. Both totals are quite an accomplishment for Aaliyah in her 4 years..!!

Speaking of moving up. Nika is now #13 in career assists with 506. Another 90 (5 x 18) or so assists would put her just below #5 Crystal Dangerfield (599). Very reachable. The #4 spot is Renee Montgomery with 632. Nika's point total so far in her career is 581.

Congrats to both players..!!

Go Huskies..!!

SPIDER STATS

Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.

Year net positives: Paige 295, Aaliyah 262, Aubrey 195, KK 120, Nika 119, Ashlynn 109, Qadence 67, Ice 11, Amari 9, Ines 5.

Year net positives per minute played: Paige .73, Aaliyah .64, Aubrey .63, Qadence .40, Ashlynn .35, KK .32, Nika .28, Amari .18, Ines .11, Ice .06.

In the Marquette game, down 10-0, it was the two freshmen starters who made the first two buckets, fearlessly, to break the drought. Impressive!!

How do we continue to play hard and fast with pressure defense without wearing out the Ninja Nine? How about 30 minutes per starter, and 25 or 30 for Q with 25 or 20 for Ice? Or even 1 minute a quarter for Ines and Amari with a little less for the others? Might that increase Ines’s confidence and Amari’s energy?

Hoping Aubrey is ok; certainly she feels supported by this team.

Compare our remaining magnificent seven to the following group that won a title with 3 freshmen and no seniors: Taurasi Conlon Battle J Moore Strother Turner Crockett. Less height more speed same numbers one “we have DT/PB and they don’t “.

What other team ever looked this good missing 5 players as good as Azzi Aubrey Caroline Jana Ayanna?

Go huskies!!
