GO UCONN!!!!!
The Boys and their Dogs -
Under the UConn blanket!!
With Spring ahead, I lose an hour to blog Saturday night. At my condo complex, we have been having what we called the "Golden Olympics"!! Three days of 17 events with over 100 residents participating. It was amazing. However, tonight was our awards ceremony. My team came in second place. It was such fun and great team building.
That being said, it was a long day and late night so I'll post what I can before I collapse.
Mostly videos, tweets and articles.

I did take time to watch the game and it was a battle. Way too physical for my taste. But the Huskies stayed strong and while the lead got down to six points one time I believe UConn kept playing hard. Oh yeah, and Paige kepts scoring, passing and rebounding.
Then Aaliyah....oh my, Aaliyah got smacked in the nose. Not just a light smack. Pretty much like a boxing match hit. Her nose was spread out all over her face. She filled a towel with blood as she eventually got off the floor and went right to the locker room, not to return to the game.
This was with 6 minutes left in the third quarter. UConn was now down to 7 available players. Period. And the score was 41-35 with UConn in the lead. They called an excessive contact foul on the play and UConn had two free throws on the technical. And of course, Paige missed them both.
Ice Brady came in for Edwards and had maybe her best 16 minutes stretch of the season. She was aggresive, confident and gave UConn exactly what they needed. She had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. She gave UConn a little of everything. Her screens were terrific and she played some solid post defense.
KK was great as well, scoring 17 points on the game and was all over the court. Shade hist a couple of big shots as well.
The freshmen just came through when UConn needed them. The Huskies outscored the Friars 45-18 after Edwards left the game. I don't think anyone thought that was the way the game would go after the injury to Aaliyah. Geno was extremely happy with his youngsters.
However, the star, of course, was Paige. Great leadership. She hit some big shots and just controled the game. 29 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks. Wow. Talk about filling up a box score.

What a terrible injury for Poa. She hit her head incredibly hard falling back and her head just bounced off the court. Her teammates helped her to her feet but she couldn't stay there and went back down. There has to be a concussion and in my opinon she will miss the rest of the SEC tournament and maybe the NCAA's. It looked that bad. A big hit on LSU's depth.
Damn, I hate injuries!!

What a game!! South Carolina jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter but Tennessee held on and never let the Gamecocks put the game out of reach. Tennessee slowly closed the gap in the fourth quarter after entering the period down 12 points and finally tied at 65 with 4 minutes remaining. More back and forth and you can watch the two minutes to see how it played out.
Tennesse had the lead by 2 points with 25 second left. South Carolina couldn't score and had to foul the Lady Vols with four seconds left. Powell missed both free throws and South Carolina grabbed the rebound.
Tennessee then for some reason fouled the rebounder with 1.2 seconds left. This gave South Carolina a chance to inbound the ball closer to the South Carolina basket. They inbounded to 6'7" Cardosa, who has never taken let alone made a three pointer for South Carolina. No one guarded her and she banked in the game winning shot at the buzzer. Where was the defense? Why would her defender be in the pain and not guarding her? Who knows. It was surely some bad coaching.

Milestone Watch
• Aaliyah Edwards now has 979 rebounds with 6 against Providence. She now needs 28 to catch Gabby Williams in 8th place.
• Nika Mühl had 637 assists after her 5 assists in the Providence game. She is now tied for 3rd place, breaking a tie with Renee Montgomery, and tying Jen Rizzotti. She needs 11 more to tie Diana Taurasi.
• Geno now has 1207 wins.
Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.
UConn 99, Providence 15.
Net positives/minutes played: Paige 32/38, KK 21/36, Aaliyah 16/24, Ashlynn 8/32, Ice 7/23, Nika 7/39, Ines 1/2, Qadence 1/6.
Paige!!! Be well, Aaliyah! KK better every game. Come on, Ice! Beat Marquette!
