Let me get the "back-patting" out of the way. Yesterday I changed my 40 point prediction to 20+.
"I predicted a 40+ win for the Huskies and I'm rethinking that number. Jackson State is one of the more experienced team that UConn will play. They have four grad students that start and one off the bench. And their fifth starter is a senior.
They are quick and tenacious. I think they could disrupt the UConn offense some. They don't have great skills so they will struggle to score.
More like a 20+ point margin."
Not too shabby.
Ok, on to the game. It was great to see someone step up as the third scorer. Paige had 28 points and Aaliyah had 20. Both of those expected. But it was Ashlynn Shade, the BE freshaman of the year, who took that position. She was 10-19 from the field, 5-11 on threes, and hit her only foul shot for a career high 26 points. While her three pointers were awesome, I just love her quick turnaround jumper even while closely defended. The opponent has no chance to do a thing about it.
Paige set the tone early scoring 8 of the Huskies 10 points that helped UConn build a double digit lead. It was 21 at the half. The second half? A slug fest. The refs sucked and it help create some ugly ball. Credit to Jackson State for playing UConn so tough. They were only outscored 37-36 in the half. Good for them! Ti'lan Bolen got hot from the outside going 5-12 on threes and scored 25 points for the Lady Tigers. She was only shooting 28% on threes this season.
The Lady Tigers came in averaging 43 rebounds per game and only had 36 against the Huskies. UConn grabbed 45 of their own.
UConn had 23 assists on 34 made baskets. A really nice percentage. And shot 50% from the field and 37.4% on threes, missing thelr last 4.
On to the round of 32 against Syracuse on Monday. Time and TV is TBD.

I'm a really good lip reader. Nika was sitting next to Coach Daily looking at the score sheet. As Paige looked on she asked, "how many turnovers did I have". Nika looks at the sheet and says fu*k!"(She had four) and turns away in disgust...lol. Hysterical.
