Syracuse Overview
Syracuse had a solid if uneaven season. On the negative side they lost to Maryland 83-81, got killed by North Carolina 75-51, lost to Virginia Tech 75-62, Louisville 81-69, Duke 58-45, NC State in OT 75-71 and then Florida State in the first round of the ACC tournament 78-65. That was three of their last 4 games before the NCAA tournament.
The positive was two wins against Notre Dame 86-81 and 79-65. They seem to have their number.
More importantly, they just beat Arizona to move on to play UConn in the Round of 32.
Cuse star Dyaisha Fair scored 32 points, including 13 after she returned from a second-half injury, to lead the Orange to a 74-69 win.
Fair was amazing. She scored all of her team's points during a game-winning run that began with the Orange trailing 66-61 with 3:16 left.
Fair hurt herself after driving into Arizona's Isis Beh on the final play of the third quarter. She was down for several minutes and had to be carried into the locker room without putting any weight on her legs. It didn't look good.
Fair returned with just over two minutes into the quarter and was back on the court a short time later. Her 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:17 left gave the Orange a 68-66 lead.
An offensive foul on Arizona's Jones gave the ball to Syracuse, and the Orange never gave back the lead.

Game Analysis
I'm glad that Syracuse won. I anticipated that and tried to save myself some time and put together a shell for this game report. It didn't look good and I started to check out Arizona stats etc. While playing Fair will not be a walk in the park, the Orange win saved me a couple of hours. Whew.
There is no doubt that 5'5" Grad Student Dyaisha Fair is the all-everything for Syracuse. You can bet she will be playing 40 minutes in this game. She leads the team in scoring at 22.3 PPG. She averages around 20 shots each game. Count that being beat against the Huskies. While she only shoots 39% from the field, she is a solid 37.9% on threes, which she averages around 10 per games. On top of that, she gets to the foul line often, around 8 per game hitting them at a very good 80.1%. She also leads the team in assists at 3.3 per game. And has a very good Assist/Turnover ratio 108/61. There's more. She leads the team in steals as well with 2 per game. UConn is going to have to work hard to slow her down.
Georgia Woolley is a 6' junior guard. She is the only other double digit scorer on the team at 13.7 PPG. She is also second on the team in steals and second on the team in assists. She doesn't shoot well at 39.3% from the field, and 28.7% on threes. She is a really good foul shooter at 83.9%.
5'8" Grad Student guard Alaina Rice averages 9.8 PPG. She had a tough game against Arizona going 0-5 from the field and 4-8 on free throws.
6'2" freshman forward Kara Latham and 6'3" junior forward Kyra Wood are the size in the starting lineup for Syracuse. They lead the team in rebounding at 6.7 RPG and 7.0 RPG.
Off the bench is 5'6" sophomore Kennedi Perkins, 6'4" Grad Student Izabel Varejão, 6'2" Sophomore Sophie Burrows and Saniaa Wilson a 6' Junior Forward. They don't contribute much offense. They certainly don't bring much three point shooting going 27-116 as a group.
Varejão is just back from an injury stint and seems to have limited minutes.
The offense, as you can tell, revolves around Fair. She has the ball in her hands an extraordinary amount of time. It will always come down to her hitting shots when it counts for the Orange.
They don't have a plan B. It will be up to Fair and the team defense, which is not that bad. However, UConn usually does a very good job when there is one player to stop. But as Hildago from Notre Dame and Harmon from Texas, small and quick guards can be a problem for UConn. It will take a team defensive effort to slow her down. However, even if she scores 30 points, I'm not sure they can get enough points from the other players to beat UConn.
For sure, UConn is playing very well offensively and I'm not sure a good defensive team is good enough.
These has been much talk about how Syracuse beat Notre Dame twice and Notre Dame beat UConn. Does that really matter? I don't believe it does. In the first game Latham had her best game of her career with 21 points and 12 rebounds. In the second game Rice had her best game of the season with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
It would take some of the same from the supporting cast for Syracuse to have a chance against the Huskies. Howevery the UConn team defense is just too tough. UConn should be able to slow dow Fair and that should be enough for the Huskies to pull away.
UConn by 14+.
