What a shock to see Georgetown in the Championship game. Crazy. I'll try to find some history on the last time, if there was a time, that a 6th seed won three games in three days to get to the final game of the tournament.

I'm not sure I've seen Geno prouder of a player than he was after this game. No, I'm not talking about Paige, although if you listen to the post game interviews, you will hear him go on about her. He was talking about Ice Brady. Sure players come through in games when needed. Some do so surpringly. But Ice came through in the biggest way. She played all 40 minutes against Marquette. And she was needed. She didn't make any silly fouls (the refs didn't make any silly calls either). And she played BIG. Her screens were effective, she posted up nicely, ran the roll in the pick and roll well and even hit a three points. She showed all her talents in this game and it bodes well for the future. I think she deferred to the upper classmen and just didn't feel the urgency when on the court. But in this game, with Edwards out and no help from the bench she came through big time. 40 minutes, 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. And only 2 personal fouls.
Paige is reaching for another level. She took the center jump to start the game, won the tip and then cut to the basket for a back door from Ice. It was the start of a great game by Paige. She played 37 minutes, was 11-16 from the field, 3-5 on threes, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. And ZERO turnovers. What an amazing performance. Oh, I left off the FOUR blocks. She is playing both ends of the floor with exceptional skills.
The defense was amazing. Yes, Marquette is not the best offensive team but to hole them to 29 points is just fantastic. UConn held Marquette to 22% from the field, 3-20 on threes and the Huskies just made life miserable for the Golden Eagles.
Hopefully everyone gets enough rest to be ready for Monday night. The few extra hours will help. The word is that if the swelling is down enough and she can manage the mask and still breath ok, Edwards will be playing. If you read my Pregame Report for Georgetown, UConn shouldn't need her. But players want to play and Geno will watch her carefully!!
This team is so friggin' resliliant. Geno is not the only one proud of them.

Straight from the Dog
Are there any players mis-named more like LSU's Angel Reese? I hate to call any young lady a name, but she really is a shit. Just watch her wind up to deliver an elbow to South Carolina's Cardoso. Fortunately Cardoso was not hit in the face like Edwards was. But it wasn't because Reese tried to miss. There was real intent on that swinging arm. She should have been tossed right there and then. Disgusting play and poor officiating. That was more than just an intentional foul. It was meant to do damage.
There was some really bad blood in this game. These two teams don't like each other. For the most part South Carolina plays tough but clean basketball. Dawn wouldn't put up with more than that. LSU, on the other hand, has Angel Reese and her attitude carries on to the other players. It's a shame.
The refs missed the hair pull on Angel Reese. What an ass. I hope her draft stock drops after this game.
All this crap culminated with a bench clearing brawl. The exciting freshman Fulwiley, who had a spectatular game, stole the ball and was pulled hard by LSU's Johnson spinning her around. Then she shoves another LSU player on her way to the bench. Cardoso lost it after getting smacked around all game and came to her teammates defense. She pushed an LSU player to the floor. That little pit bull, Van Lith, circles in the crowd of players and take a shot at Cardoso. Six players I believe were ejected from the game and I heard that Cardoso will be suspended for the 1st NCAA tournament game.
Watch the video. Johnson's brother jumped the seats onto the court and was arrested and taken away in handcuffs.
What an embarrassement for LSU, South Carolina and WCBB.

Ok, back to basketball and not brawlball!
No. 2 Stanford lost to No. 5 Southern Cal 74-61 to give the Trojans the final PAC12 title. Super Freshman JuJu Watkins had a horrible game but USC was able to win this game with contributions from other players. Watkins was 2-15 from the field, scored 9 points. She had only 1 assists and 6 turnovers. McKenzie Forbes had 26 points to lead the way for the Trojans. So, that's another No. 1 seed to go down this week. But they might not move off the ONE line as USC is a highly rated team.
No. 14 Notre Dame upset No. 10 North Carolina State 55-51 in another low scoring affair. Playoff basketball is all about defense. Andother super freshman, Hannah, Hildago, had a great game for the Irish. She had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and ZERO turnovers. I love her game. Do the Irish parlay this ACC tournemtn championship into a 2 seed? Ahead of UConn? It's possible. Both teams only played 6 players.

True Shooting Percentage for Paige
I recently put together a summary of the true shooting percentages for players were recorded over 30 points in a game this season. There were 18 such instances.
As a reminder, True Shooting Percentage is a stat that starts with overall field-goal percentage, then adjusts for free point goals and free throws to come up with an overall stat.
In those 18 games the best value recorded was by Mikaylah Williams of LSU with a true shooting percentage of 91%. Paige Bueckers had three entries in the list, at 85.7%, 79.7%, and 72.4%. Those results were the third, eighth and 12th best of the 18 games.
Paige didn’t record 30 points against Marquette. She sat the final three minutes given the substantial lead and “only” scored 27, so it doesn’t quite qualify as a 30-point game but it still possible to calculate the true shooting percentage.
Her true shooting percentage against Marquette was 76%. This happens to be slightly more than the 74% true shooting percentage by Juju Watkins in her 51-point game against Stanford.
There is no question that 51 points is very impressive:
Watkins’ stat line included 14 for 26 overall field-goals (54%), 6 for 11 from beyond the arc (55%) , and 17 of 19 from the free-throw line (90%).
Paige’s stat line included 11 for 16 overall field goals (69%), 3 for5 from beyond the arc (60%), and 2 for 4 from the free-throw line (50%)
In other words, substantially better overall field-goal percentage, somewhat better three-point shooting percentage, while a lower free-throw percentage. All that against one of the best defensive teams in the Big East.
Milestone Watch
• Nika Mühl had 643 assists after her 5 assists in the Marquette game. She is in 3rd place. She needs 6 more to tie Diana Taurasi.
• Geno now has 1208 wins.
Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.
UConn 70, Marquette 9.
Net positives/minutes played: Paige 43/37, Ice 7/40, Qadence 6/15, Nika 6/37, Ashlynn 6/40, Ines 0/3, KK -5/28.
Caitlin Clark today 28/44.
Paige Bueckers!! Defense!! Paige Bueckers!! Ice! Paige Bueckers !!! The Samurai Seven!!
