Congrats to incoming freshman Christyn Williams in leading her team to the Class 4A state championship. She scored 42 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had 3 steals and two blocks in the
68-57 win over Riverview.

What a great finish to her high school career and she did this in front of Geno, who flew in to watch the game Friday.

After reading the Courant article on Megan Walker (linked below) I'm more convinced that my prediction of her starting next season will come true. This young woman understands the process and while I'm sure she is disappointed in her performance to date, she expects Geno to get her to be the best basketball player she can be.

Don't be surprised if she makes some great contributions in the NCAA tournament.

What's more fun for me than making fun of idiots on message board?

On the UConn board one poster said that " injured starters were sacrificed in order to prove a point".

Huh? Geno "sacrificed injured starters"? That has to be one of the dumbest statements ever. Geno is incredibly careful with the health of his players. To say he would do that to make a point is just insulting to Geno and his staff. I believe Geno would smack this guy if he had the chance.

And over on the Tennessee board, they have nothing better to do but trash UConn. How do you trash an undefeated team ranked No. 1 all season? You make fun of their conference.

No, I won't defend the AAC. But after the first 7 teams in the SEC, you have just as many crappy teams as the bottom 7 as you do in the AAC. Maybe they missed UConn beating up on the SEC tournament champs hammering them on their own court by 24 points.

One more thing. UConn's overall SOS is 4. Tennessee's is 8.

By David in Naples!!!!!

The return of N.I.S.E...!!  The Naples Index for Scoring Efficiency is a method for evaluating how many shots it takes for a player to score a particular number of points. For example, Katie Lou has taken 318 shots from the field and 80 free throws. Total scoring opportunities is 318 + 80 = 398. She has scored 483 points with those chances. Her N.I.S.E. is 483-398 = +85.  Obviously, the 3 point shots count for 1 more point than a regular basket. But they are harder to make. Free throws are the easiest, but you only get 1 point each try. The N.I.S.E. on a free throw is 0 if you make it.

Here is the N.I.S.E. for each UConn player who has started a game.
1. Katie Lou = +85
2. Kia Nurse = +74
3. Azura        = +66
4. Napheesa  = +52
5. Crystal D.  = +30
6. Gabby        = +25

Good three-point shooters get a slight advantage since they get +2 if they make the shot & only -1 if they miss. On the other hand, Z is -23 on her threes. (50 shots minus 27 points on 9 makes.)  Megan Walker has a N.I.S.E. of -18. You don't want to know the N.I.S.E. of the rest of the bench... (puke)

As a group, the six players who have started have a N.I.S.E. of +332. That is off the charts good..!!  Bring in the rest of the team and it falls to +266, which is still good. As a team, UConn makes 53% of their shots and 77% of their free throws. Very efficient..!!

Since I know you are curious, A'ja Wilson has a N.I.S.E. of -12. 8-)  She has 656 points, but it took 447 shots and 221 free throws. As a team, South Carolina has a N.I.S.E. of -160. Lots of shots, but lots of misses.

Go Huskies..!!

  1. I don’t know how hard finding the data to calculate the NISE is, but after the bracket is revealed, I’d love to know the numbers for the starting 5 of the top 8 seeds.
