While I bake in the Florida sun, my grandson Logan, back in Connecticut, is enjoying himself.

Today he put on his jacket, hat and put socks on his hands to prepare to read a Christmas book.

He's a little weirdo....but he's my weirdo!!!

Congrats to incoming freshman Christyn Williams, who won the Morgan Wootten award to go along with winning the Naismith Award and her State Championship.

What is the Morgan Wooten award? The Morgan Wootten Award is given annually to the McDonald's All American who best exhibits outstanding character, leadership and the values of a student-athlete in the classroom and the community.

Not only a great basketball player, she is a great person.

And on the 2018 recruiting front, Ezi Macbegor, the talented Australian, has still not announced her choice of college but.......

From this article in the Canberra Times.

The Capitals are still coming to grips with the departures of teenage superstar
Eziyoda Magbegor (University of Connecticut)

Hmmm.......do they know something that we don't know yet????

Hehehe........

With the NCAA brackets out, UConn's road to the Final is clear. If the Huskies take care of business, the first three games appear to be against St Francis, Miami, and Georgia. Here is UConn's N.I.S.E. and the N.I.S.E. of those three teams:

UConn = +266
St. Francis = -292
Miami = -302
Georgia = -321

Clearly, the first three possible opponents are nowhere near the efficient scoring machine that UConn is.. 8-)

If the Huskies win those first 3 games, the next likely opponent would be South Carolina. Rather than a team N.I.S.E., here is the number for just the starters.

Uconn = +332  (5 starters plus Z)
South Carolina = -82

Beating South Carolina would put UConn in a semifinal game against, most likely, either Notre Dame or Oregon. Her is the N.I.S.E. for the two possible opponents, for their starters.

Notre Dame =  +20
Oregon = +207 (top 6 starters)

Clearly, the better offensive team is Oregon. Much more efficient scoring numbers.  So, if UConn wins in the semifinal game, the list of possible opponents is highlighted by Miss. State and Baylor. Here is the N.I.S.E. for their starters.

Miss. State = +50
Baylor  = +59

No possible opponent has the N.I.S.E. score of UConn. But, as the Huskies found out last season, you have to make the shots to win the game. Still, the scoring efficiency is impressive for Geno's team.

Go Huskies..!!

Here is a new addition for the NCAA Tournament and maybe going forward in my Blog! My friend Rocky is going to contribute his great insight into the UConn program and WCBB in general. You will enjoy his knowledge, intelligence and best of all, humor.

A Gamecock In The Ring With One Spur

Last night in the ESPN extended coverage hour of the Selection Special there was a short segment with Rebecca & Co. interviewing Dawn and she came off pretty disgusted with the Committee for sending the Gamecocks to Albany and not Lexington. "Four years and no Lexington so our fans can really realistically have a shot at attending in any numbers. The Committee wants attendance and we have 14,000 a night when we play at home." But she can't help a Freudian slip when she says (paraphrase) "and I'm not running from the UConn bracket."

But if you know body language and tells, it is mostly about that. She knows her club is a one trick pony and she needs a venue that is screamingly supportive to have a real shot at getting out of the region that has UConn in it and it ain't happening.  538 gives the Gamecock's a 5% chance of beating UConn.

Yup, Dawn is feeling like Karen Ashton did in the annual trudge to the Albany Region. Plus she has a team that relies pretty much on A'ja Wilson and A'ja stunk the joint out in the game against UConn this year. To her credit she took responsibility in the post-game presser.

So, when A'ja found out it was Albany I suspect she felt like really! really!! But in her media availability she handled herself well, though somewhat confused, calling the Gamecocks the ones who always have the target on their backs and are the underdogs too.

Her body language isn't the greatest and it is my feeling that A'ja has her Ring and her POY and she's tired of carrying the club and wants to move on. Her heart isn't in it. It's on to holding that number 1 jersey up at the WNBA Draft for the Las Vegas Aces.
