With another Nor'easter arriving on Wednesday, I want to tell all my northern friends and family to stay safe and while I do feel badly for you all, I don't feel that badly that I am here in sunny Florida.

Napheesa Collier exploded for 48 points in two games against St. Francis and Quinnipiac and moved dramatically up the UConn all-time scoring list. From 27th place, Pheesa is now sitting 21st and just 30 points behind Swin Cash to crack the top 20..!! Katie Lou is also making her move on Shea, with only 14 points between them..!! Here is the current list:

Past, Present and Future

Wow, what a weekend.. I'm both drain and charged by the basketball of the first two rounds of games. Some observations:

Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it. This truism is no more aptly demonstrated than by Holly Warlick, the Tennessee Coach who in her 6 years as head Coach has made a stubborn insistence on sticking to "Tennessee ball as defined by Pat Summit decades ago" into an art form that looks like a Dali time piece. She's what is bad for basketball and after a disgraceful post-game press conference, she got called on it.

Candace Parker obscured the issue and gave Pat Summit a nice send off, but ironically it was Pat's hand picked successor who continued the slide of the once dominant program in WCBB.

The present is being made exciting by mid majors with coaches who get it. Like Scott Rueck whose Oregon state Beavers upset Tennessee; the first loss in the NCAAs for Tennessee on the court Pat Summit built.

And it's being made exciting by articulate, smart and hard working Coaches like Quinnipiac's Tricia Fabbri. In her post game presser she said she felt her program was validated. She has an interesting story that many of us UConn fans picked up on 20 years ago when Geno agreed to play Quinnipiac. She has for years pointed to that 97 point shellacking as the beginning of a journey to excellence and she is an unabashed fan of all things Genoball.
