I have several links with the details, so check them out. UConn cleaned up the first day of the AAC awards.

No real surprises. Nurse was AAC defensive player of the year, and she was joined on the all-AAC first team by teammates Samuelson, Williams and Collier. Stevens was newcomer of the year, 6th player of the year and 2nd team all-AAC. Dangerfield was 3rd team all-AAC.

No UConn freshman on the AAC freshman team and no surprise there by performance. But it is an unusual happenstance for UConn not to have a player on that team.

More tomorrow and I expect Katie Lou and Geno to take home the big hardware!!

Butler Nikki

My favorite non-husky player this season, Natalie Butler, was named Atlantic 10 POY.

Butler had a fabulous season. She played 34.2 minutes per game, and she shot a solid 52% from the field and a surprising 42.9% (9-21) on threes. She dominated in many games this year and she averaged 19.0 PPG and 16.3 RPG.

I have read plenty of fan comments that downplay her accomplishments due to weak competition. I say poppycock! These are spectacular no matter who she is playing against.

Sadly, they lost in their quarterfinal game against George Washington, coached by another favorite of mine, Jen Rizzoti.

In just an ugly display of basketball, The Tennessee Vols lost to South Carolina in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament.

I was happy to see both Wilson and Nared were healthy enough to play. And Wilson was the difference in this game. She played only 19 minutes but she had 24 points and 12 rebounds. In fact, the front line of South Carolina dominated. Wilson, Jennings, and Herbert-Harrigan had 58 points and 28 rebounds between them.

Tennessee missed more point blank shots than I can remember ever seeing in one game. I mean shot after shot after shot. Tennessee had  ridiculous number of offensive rebounds with 27 and those seemed to be on one possession. Crazy.

The Lady Vols took 30 more shots than South Carolina but only shot 26% from the field and 27% on threes. The good news is after Tennessee losses in their NCAA game, their season will be over.

Time for the UConn All-Time scoring update...Gabby, Kia, Katie Lou and Napheesa scored 49 combined points against USF and Katie Lou passed Swin Cash & tied Kia for 18th place. Gabby is ready to move past Asjha Jones and into 25th place. Look who is #16... Here are the latest totals:

There will, hopefully, be 3 AAC Tournament games in a row starting Sunday. That should give these four plenty of time to add to their scoring totals. An update will be given after the tourney ends..!!
