Congrats to DT and Penny on the birth of their son Leo

The tournament starts on Friday. Our wonderful Huskies don't play until 11:00 est on Saturday. But there are a few games of interest and of course, I have something to say.

The two 5 vs 12 games Friday both have possibility of an upset. No. 5 Maryland is playing No. 12 Princeton, the Ivy League champions. The Tigers have been a terrific defensive team in building their 24-5 record. They gave up only 34 points in their league tournament championship game against Penn. Now Maryland is no Penn, but if you slow them down, they can really struggle. Princeton has a terrific player in Bella Alarie (daughter of former Duke star Mark Alarie) who leads them in scoring at 13.3 PPG and rebounding at 9.6 RPG. She also has 75 blocks. At 6'4" she can create matchup issues for the Terps as she is both big and agile.

I love the No. 5 DePaul vs No. 12 Oklahoma game. DePaul and Doug Bruno are always fun to watch. Lots of three point shots and full line changes in Doug's substitution patterns. Oklahoma was a big surprise to even get into the tournament with an at-large bid. But I do think that Sherri's team has the ability to beat this DePaul team. Oklahoma will take plenty of threes as well and expect this game to have both teams score 80+ points.

Now, you know I have to comments on the No. 3 Tennessee vs  No. 14 Liberty game. Can you imagine the pressure on these young women for Tennessee? I'm sure they know how the fan base is feeling about them and how they are really feeling about Coach Warlick. She could be gone if they would actually lose this game. I don't expect that to happen. Tennessee is pretty good at beating up weaker teams. Like a bully, they will pour it on, even with a big lead, to the very end. Hey, maybe they will get smacked in the nose and fall apart? I can only hope.

What would a night be without me sharing with you some really dumb post on the UConn message board.

This one is in a thread about Ezi Magbegor, the Australian 18 year old that is considering UConn for her college career. I've talk about her plenty so I'm sure you are familiar with her. She is considered the best 18 year old player in the world. I'll buy that!

So, in this thread, there were a few video's linked with plenty of Ezi highlights. Now me? I look at these videos and my glass is not half full, it's pouring over the top. I'm just a positive kind of person. So, you can imagine how annoyed I get when I read a post like this -

"I love Magbegor's upside as much as anyone but there is some laziness in her game that is a little alarming. I'm sure Coach Auriemma can break this bad habit(or she won't play) but at first she may be in for a rude awakening."

Laziness in her game? Based on a few videos that are basically highlights of Magbegor? What can this poster possibly be seeing that could be considered lazy?

This particular poster is one I read to get dumb stuff to share. He didn't disappoint me.

Who is the leading scorer for UConn this season? The answer depends on how you want to measure each players scoring. For example, Napheesa has scored the most points (493) over Katie Lou (483) and Azura (472). But, on the UConn website, they always arrange scoring by points per game. KLS is at 17.9 ppg and Collier is 15.4 ppg. Z is even lower at 14.8 ppg. Obviously, Katie Lou missing 5 games is the reason she has the higher points per game average.

What if scoring production was measured in points per minute? That stat would provide a true measure of scoring since players with fewer minutes would not be penalized. For example, Azura has played only 681 minutes, so her 472 points come out to 0.69 points per minute on the court. Napheesa has played the most minutes at 911. So, her 483 points come out to 0.54 points per minute. Katie Lou has 483 points and her average per minute is 0.62, which is between Z and Pheesa.

So take your pick.
1. Most points scored this season = Napheesa with 493
2. Highest scoring average per game = Katie Lou at 17.9
3. Most points per minute played = Azura at 0.69

How about we just say they are all great scorers and UConn will need all three in the tournament..!!

Go Huskies..!!
