DoggyDaddy's Dailies 1/13/16

Here is my UConn/Memphis pregame report

******************************************************************************

Here is a terrific video of UConn recruit Crystal Dangerfield. It's not the usual highlight video where she makes every shot. It's her working out, doing drills to improve her shooting and dribbling. Very intense.

Repetition is the Key

Only one Top Twenty-five game Tuesday. No. 6 Baylor was able to pull ahead at the end of the game to defeat unranked West Virginia 69-64.

Baylor ran out to an early lead taking a 21-14 first quarter lead. West Virginia rallied quickly in second quarter with a 15-4 run after 5 minutes into the quarter on a three pointer by Teanna Muldrow. The rest of the quarter was a back and forth affair with West Virginia taking a one point lead at the half.

Baylor build an eight point lead in the third quarter before WV closed the gap to four 55-51. West Virginia was able to snag a 2 point lead 60-58, holding Baylor to 3 points in the first 8 minutes of the quarter. A horrible series of plays, with the Bears going 0-8 to start the quarter.

But it was Cave to the rescue, scoring Baylor's next seven points and the Bears held on for the final 69-64 win.

Not one of Baylor's best effort.

From David in Naples

As a team, UConn shoots 78% from the free throw line (171-219).  They have taken more than twice the attempts as opponents, who make only 68% (65-95). Taking more free throws and hitting them at a higher rate gives UConn 106 extra points over just 14 games.

The player with the best average is Napheesa Collier at 89% (16-18). But, four other Huskies are in the 80% or higher range. Moriah is at 84% (16-19), Katie Lou is at 83% (15-18), Saniya is also at 83% (10-12) and Stewie averages 82% (45-55).

The surprise of the season is Gabby shooting 76% (16-21). That is 30% better than last year's 46%..!!  Morgan Tuck and Kia Nurse both hit at a 72% success rate.

Foul the Huskies and you pay the price..!!

Here is another great piece by a guest contributor that goes by lbyrde. I love his writing style. He doesn't hold anything back like someone else I know!!! ME!!!!

He is a little annoyed by the lack of UConn players in ESPNW's Player of the Week over the last few years. Enjoy!

Sure we know ESPN is basically clueless on team sports and is more interested in flash as demonstrated by the "Three to See" "Bionic Britney" and their continuous hyping of big scorers with little appreciation of all around players that play both sides of the ball. Having said that, I can't understand how one of the greatest players ever - never won player of the week - Stewart and how over the last three years of NC winning basketball, only Jefferson and Tuck won the award once each.

If I didn't know better I'd think Hayes, Voepel, Smith and Crème were Valley girls - shallow and only impressed with flash or they really hate good basketball play (UConn). And while its not definitive of all award winners, one only has to read through the names to wonder why these fools never noticed Stewart. She's really tall and its not hard to pick her out on the court - she's the one playing really well.

The clear avoidance of the 3 time NC champs seems to be obvious or how else could they have selected Kelsey Mitchel as the first award winner this year right after UConn layed a 44 point ass whipping on OH St - holding Mitchel to 8 points Clearly the fabulous four missed that game.
