I missed this the other night. In the Penn State upset of No. 14 Northwestern, former UConn player, Brianna Banks scored 25 points to help the Nittany Lions win against the Wildcats.
She made 7 of 19 shots but her scoring was defined by making 11-12 foul shots. She also added 3 assists and 2 steals.
I'm so happy for her. I always thought she could have an impact for UConn but it's great to see her performing so well at her school of choice.

Only one top twenty-five game Friday and Louisville upset No. 15 Florida State 79-69. This was a game that if I had to pick an upset it would be this one. Louisville is a really talented team and Florida State to me is a limited offensive team. If you can score on FSU you should be able to beat them. Louisville did just that.

UConn stats leaders are easy to guess. Stewie for points, MoJeff on assists, etc... But who is 2nd in the most important categories?1. Points = Morgan Tuck w/ 169
2. Assists = Stewie w/ 47
3. Rebounds = Gabby w/ 68
4. Steals = Collier w/ 27
5. Free throw % = MoJeff at 83.3%
6. Blocks= Napheesa w/ 14
7. Minutes played = Morgam w/ 332
2nd place is not bad on a star studded team like UConn..!

I'm always searching the message boards for things that make me crazy (I know, that's not to hard) and found a thread where the article by Voepel where she said "nothing can bring UConn back to earth" was posted. Of course there were fans of other teams taking issue with that. Especially Notre Dame fans.
"UConn is winning with their seniors leading the way in scoring by a fairly wide margin. Look at the stats for their games against top opponents. The top 3 scorers are pretty much Stewart, Tuck, and Jefferson. ND is winning with different players stepping up for different games, and two of the bigger ones are freshmen. Once ND starts to really click, watch out.
Right now UConn does have a good advantage over ND. ND has had some complications that have required adjustment, so they're still trying to find themselves. However, come April, assuming everyone stays healthy, ND could negate that advantage."

So, when a UConn fan replies with this -
"UCONN now has Butler who was tabbed as their post replacement for Stokes with the difference being she is a scorer as well. She is an important piece that was missing from the puzzle this year. Her presence should have a significant positive affect on her teammates especially on defense and with rebounding on both ends. As good as ND is and they are very, very good, I do not see them closing the gap this year against UCONN."
A reasonable response just saying that while ND will improve, so will UConn. So what was the response to this?? -
"Ah, and none of ND's players can improve, right? After all, only Auriemma has the ability to make players better over the course of a season, right?"
What a jerk. That UConn fan said nothing of the kind. But of course this Notre Dame fan has no thoughts about having a reasonable conversation. He just wants to argue. Now I'm not above arguing, but I like to think I can have a reasonable debate with fans of every team.
There's more.
Another Notre Dame fan took issue with how good the UConn fan thought that Butler could be for UConn. Based on his observations watching her in HS and at Georgetown.
"I've seen her live both in HS and college, and like her, but this is an entirely different level. (Well, maybe not conf play. She'll probably look very good against that competition.)"
So, he not only felt the need to insult Butler but took a shot at the AAC. You know how I have been talking up the AAC. And the ACC is not that much better, no matter how much fans of that conference says it over and over. And I have posted a few times how Butler did two years ago against good competition. The comment about this being an "entirely different level" (whatever that is) is just bullshit.
The UConn fans came back with "I'm sure she'd look just awful against powerhouse teams like Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina St, Pittsburgh, and Wake Forest"
A great response that was met with this -
"I don't think I need to tell you why that analogy misses by light years."
Seemed like a pretty good one to me....lol. The AAC conference schedule might be easy for UConn, but so would games against these ACC teams.
I understand the most recent frustration for Notre Dame fans. But they should try to live in the real world.
