Ok, just a few more comments on the Tennessee win over Notre Dame. It seems that many basketball fans are GAGA over this Tennessee team after watching them beat Notre Dame on the Irish's court Monday night. Maybe it's my bias against the Tennessee program, but I just didn't see much different in them in their three games this season. In regard to the ND game, perspective is always a good thing.

They played a really weak Notre Dame team. I mean really weak.

This really weak Notre Dame team that had a terrible shooting game. Was some of that TN defense? Some. But you will see as the season progresses, ND is no better than let’s say Dayton. They play 5 ranked teams in their next 9 games. Don’t be surprised if they lose four of them.

Tennessee had a 17-7 lead after four minutes. Over the next 36 minutes the score was 57-56.

Two players took 31 of their 53 shots. Those two players were 16-31. The rest of the team was 9-22. Those two players were also 8-14 on threes. The rest of the team was 0-5. I would wager a guess you won’t see two players for TN hit 57% on threes in a game for the rest of the season.

TN out rebounded ND by 27, 55-28. Maybe because ND started four guards and one forward who does not rebound well. Their one player off the bench is their only height but she is not a good player and has no experience. Her game stats were 1-8 from the field and only 3 rebounds 8 in 21 minutes. Tennessee should dominate small teams.

He elephant ant in the room is turnovers. People can say now much better the offense moved the ball, but 28 turnovers is just awful.

So how does this years team compare to last years team? Well, based on three games, it's not much different. Of course last years stats are a full season, however, it does tell you something. I'll list this years numbers first.

Fields Goal Percentage 32.5% vs 43%
Three Point Percentage 30.0% vs 32.5%
Foul Shooting Percentage 59.1% vs 69.5%
Assists per game 16.6 vs 14.2
Turnovers per game 19 vs 15.9
Points per game 69.7 vs 74.6

Now, these are cherry picked stats. I admit that. And it's only three games.

Defensively they are doing better. But I'd wait until they play some good offensive teams to make a call on if the defense is better.

Overall, the fawning over the performance of the team is a little too soon. Is the coaching better? Anything would be better than Holly Warlick.

Image result for early signing period

Wednesday starts the early signing period (11/13 - 11/20) for the incoming class of 2020 and UConn has 5 players that will be coming to Storrs next season. ESPN has Oregon as the No. 1 class, but I have to disagree with that ranking. Shocking huh..lol.

Oregon's Class

No. 10 Sydney Parrish, 6-0, G

No. 15 Kylee Watson, 6-3, F

No. 19 Maddie Scherr, 6-0, G

No. 24 Angela Dugalic, 6-2, F
No. 33 Te-Hina Paopao, 5-9, PG

While this is a very good class, we all know that the top of every class has the best players and the No. 1 player is usually in a class by herself.

UConn's Class

No. 1 Paige Bueckers 5'11", PG
International Star Nika Muhl 5'10", PG
No. 21 SF Mir McLean 5'11", F
No. 26  Aaliyah Edwards 6'3", F
Unranked Piath Gabriel 6'4", C

There is no way I would trade classes with Oregon. I would take Bueckers alone over their five player class. They don't rank Muhl, who would be a top 15 player if she was coming out of an American high school. They also totally under rank Edwards, another non-American. And look for Gabriel to be in the top 100 in the next issue of their rankings. Prospect Nation, another recruiting service, has McLean at No. 11 and Gabriel at No. 41.

That all being said, there is only one ranking service I care about, and that is Geno's.

Image result for stat of the day

By David in Naples!!!!!

UConn made their first 2 shots against California on Sunday. The Huskies then proceeded to miss the next 11 tries over almost 7 minutes. Many were in close lay-ups that should have been automatic. The good news is that over the remaining 32:23 of the game, the Huskies shot 25-52 or 48%. The glass is more than 1/2 full...

Oregon recently beat Team USA in an exhibition game in Oregon. Oregon fans and the media called the win historic. It is not. Consider who was missing from the USA roster. Elena Della Donne, Stewie, Brittany Griner, Aja Wilson, Tina Charles and Maya Moore. Does Oregon score 93 points with those players on the floor? The other critical point was the 21 personal fouls called on USA vs only 11 for Oregon. Sylvia Fowles played only 16 minutes because she was called for 5 fouls. Is it possible the guys in the striped shirts were a bit whistle happy?
