Highlights from the most recent game

UConn has played Dayton three times in their history and has won all three. I was at the game where Dayton played a great first half in Albany at the Elite Eight game. They hit every open shot and actually led 44-43 before UConn put them away in the second half. I believe they have gone through several coaches since that game. If I'm not mistaken this could be the third coach in the last three games that they have faced.

Overview

Dayton

Dayton is coming off a very tough overtime loss to Central Michigan 81-80. There only other loss was to No. 5 South Carolina 75-49 in a game that should be more of an indication of how the UConn game should go.

UCONN

The Huskies come into this game at 5-0 on the season and is coming off a tough outing against Ohio State on the road. That game was much tougher than expected but Geno was very happy about the effort against the Buckeyes. This game is the middle game of a road trip that ends in New Jersey against Seton Hall.

Dayton women's basketball head coach Shauna Green is entering her fourth season in charge of the Flyers' program.

University of Dayton Vice President and Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan announced that  Green would be the Flyers' new head women's basketball coach in September of 2016.

 Game Analysis

Here is another game where I haven't seen the opponent and really don't know their style of play. I don't have a lot of time to watch video, but I did watch a few minutes of the Flyer game against South Carolina. Since UConn plays the Gamecocks later in the season, it helps me with that game analysis as well.

Dayton plays exclusively a Man-to-Man defense and I didn't see much help defense. No pressure and no full court defense as well. They rely on individual players doing their job. They are not a big team but they do a great job with position rebounding.

They are not a quick team and allowed a ton of fast break baskets for their opponent. Even on made baskets they had difficulty getting back on defense. I'd look for UConn to run a lot in this game.

Offensively, the Flyers use a lot of picks to get open for jump shots. I didn't see a lot of rolling on the picks, which surprised me. They will break when they have the chance, but it's just not in their game plan or in their ability with their team speed.

UConn has struggled getting off quickly in games. I would bet that Geno would look for his team to score early and often by running and running. Geno has said he needs them to get easy baskets, and to do that they need to run off rebounds and turnovers.

Match ups are a problem for Dayton. They don't have anyone to guard Williams or Walker. Look for big games from them. I know, tough call on that one..lol.

Final Prediction

Well, I've sucked at this prediction stuff so far this year. I should just say UConn will win. I'll be right most of the time. But I'll take the heat when I'm wrong. After watching Dayton a little bit, they should struggle to score a lot against the Huskies. Maybe 55. And UConn should get close to 80.

I'll say UConn by 20+.
