I love Geno's line - "Our goal is to be bad for basketball again".

Hysterical!!!

UConn's future opponent and future conference mate DePaul had an amazing 1st quarter in their 109-64 win over Arkansas State.

The Blue Demons had 45, yes 45 points in the first quarter. I'm not even sure you could do that with no opponent on the court! They hit 9 three pointers. For the game they were 16-42 on three's. Yes, they put up one three point shot every minutes of the game.

Looking forward to see how Doug Bruno's team does when they face the Huskies. Can Geno devise a way to guard the perimeter??

I know I complain about it every season, but when you have a night like this past Thursday night it just jumps out at me.

Here are the games that teams in the Top Ten played.

No. 2 Baylor 90 Lamar 28
No. 5 South Carolina 112 South Carolina Upstate 32
No. 7 Oregon State 95 Southern Utah 45
No. 8 Louisville 86 Chattanooga 37
No. 10 Mississippi State 92 Jackson State 53

The only pass they get playing these teams is that they are "local". I like supporting teams in your area. BUT.....South Carolina Upstate??? Really?

Oregon State gets a pass because they played RPI 88, 44, 8 and 5 before playing 198. But their next 7 games are against 23, 299, 143, 254, 168, 14,  and 347 before their conference games start.

Yes, it happens every year. It doesn't change the fact that it's annoying!!

By David in Naples!!!!!

UConn has made exactly 2/3rds of their free throw attempts (44-66) so far this season. That is 67% and is not a good number. The main culprit is Aubrey Griffin who has missed 8 of her 14 tries. She has made 43% and missed 57%. (puke) Oddly, the next contributor to this problem is Christyn who has missed 4 of her 12 tries and stands at 67%. Last season she was a 74% free throw shooter, so there is hope she will improve.

1. 22 missed free throws in 4 games averages out to 5.5 per game. In blowouts it won't matter, but against great teams that is too much meat left on the bone.
2. Olivia is making 79% of her free throws. Last year she made only 53%, so her improvement has been dramatic.
3. Crystal has the least free throws of all the regulars. She is 3-3 but even Kyla has more attempts than she does.
4. Over the last three years, UConn's free throw accuracy was 73%, 77% and 78%.

Time to practice more from the charity stripe.

Go Huskies..!!
