It's not gonna be pretty, but it's got to be gritty!

This was the story of this game. A crap sandwich on great bread. It was an improvement over the last game which was an improvement over the first game. It's all you can ask!

The first quarter was absolutely terrific offensively. UConn had it's highest scoring quarter of the season to start the game with 32 points. They hit their three's, crashed the boards and made that extra pass. Not so much defensively as they gave up 21 points.

The second and third quarters were a bunch of ugly basketball where neither team shot well. Was it good defense or bad offense? A little of both. To tell you the truth, with only scoring 57 points in three quarters, all I could think about was how the fans would continue the narration of how bad this team is compared to the past, and heaven forbid, would lose an AAC game! I mean, look how they collapsed in the fourth quarter in the first two games. They surely would have a repeat performance and struggle to get to 70 points for the game.

Then is happened. UConn put together a really good fourth quarter. They scored 26 points in some really solid play and only allowed 9 points. They got some good minutes from the bench as well.

It's a late night for me so no time for player analysis. But it looked to me like everyone found a way to contribute and I saw more growth from the two freshmen. It bodes well for the future, especially the immediate future on Tuesday night when the team is back home and playing Virginia. Maybe we will see THREE quarters of really good basketball?

Two top five teams game this close to being upset Sunday.

No. 5 Texas A&M pulled out the win on the road against Rice. Yes, Rice. The Aggies won 62-61 on a shot by Cierra Johnson with 9 seconds left in the game. One more high scoring game for volume shooter Chennedy Carter. She had 29 points but it took 27 shots to do it. Color me unimpressed.

Gonzaga is always a tough team but it is still a big surprise that they were able to take Stanford to overtime before losing 76-70.

This is going to be an interesting season in WCBB.

However, there were two upsets in WCBB Sunday and both involved the powerful PAC 12 conference. One each on either side of the upset.

No. 19 Arizona State was upset by Minnesota 80-66 on a terrific offensive effort from Lindsay Whalen's Gophers. They shot 50% from the field 44.8% on threes and were 14-17 on free throws. That will win you a lot of games.

And unranked Arizona absolutely destroyed overrated No. 22 Texas 83-58 behind 44 points from Aari McDonald. She was just on fire in this game, setting a school record in points in a single game. She was 14-18 from the field, 2-5 on threes and 14-14 from the free throw line. I don't care how good the other team, a ranked team has no business losing at home by 25 points. Well, at 1-2, maybe they won't be ranked when the AP poll comes out Monday? My problem is it probably means that Tennessee will break into the Top 25. And they get to play this terrible Texas team. It gives the Lady Vol fans one more chance to brag.

Image result for stat of the day

By David in Naples!!!!!

Lots of great stats from the 83-54 victory over Temple, but by far the best is the points, rebounds and assists from the “non-core four.” Anna, Aubrey and the reserves scored 20 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and passed out 10 dimes.

Runner-up Stat of the Day- UConn’s 81% free throw shooting (13-16), including 5-5 from Olivia.
