Like UConn, it's been a struggle this season for me, at least in regards to predicting the scores. So, when I get one right, I like to brag a little. I called it pretty close when I predicted UConn by 40+.
When Tulane hit their first three 3-point shots to take a 9-7 lead early, I had a bad feeling early and at 19-13 after one quarter, that 40+ point prediction was looking way off.
However, UConn started to play their A+ defense and they scored well in the second quarter to stretch out the lead to 44-21 at the half, I was feeling much better.
The defense continued for the entire second half and while UConn struggled offensively at times, they still outscored Tulane by enough to win the game by 43 points.
Game Observations -
Geno must have had a long talk with Makurat as she was much more aggressive offensively. It was great to see her look for her shots instead of passing the ball when she was open. In this game she took the open three AND took a few midrange shots.
Makurat also had an unusual box score line. It's not often you see a player with five categories with 5+ in each. She had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 turnovers and 6 steals. I don't like the turnovers, but it was great to see how active she was.
Walker did most of her work in the first half, but she ended up with 18 points as well. She looked strong in taking the ball to the basket. And she only had ONE turnover.
UConn won in spite of an off game for Dangerfield. She had only 5 points on 2-11 shooting and 1-5 on threes. She did play some good defense and had 3 assists and 3 steals.
Williams is still trying to find her game, but she was better in this one. She scored only 9 points, but she did a great job distributing the ball with 6 assists.
It was another good game with Nelson-Ododa. She scored only 10 points but she was strong on the boards with 11 rebounds for her double double.

This is maybe the worst free throw shooting UConn team I've ever seen. In this game they were 4-13 with Griffin the biggest offender with a 3-8 effort. She had 7 points and 7 rebounds. Hit 3 more free throws and it's a nice box score for her.
Overall, a good game for UConn. But it was another slow start for the Huskies. And that is getting a little old.
Up next is what could be a tough game against Central Florida, who beat South Florida Wednesday night to tie for second place in the conference. UConn beat them 59-52 in their last game a month ago. That was in Florida, so I'm expecting UConn to improve on that effort on Saturday at home.

It was a funny exchange between that Lady Vol fan and a visiting UConn fan. Here is that exchange -
TN fan - "there will be one or two players leave you can bet on that"
UConn fan - "Do you know who??"
TN fan - "It could be Williams or Makurat or both, Williams has been very inconsistent so far."
UConn fan - "And why would they leave?"
TN fan - "if there playing time is cut next year or lose there starting position ?"
UConn fan - "Ok, got it. Based on the 2020-2021 with all the new players coming in. I don’t think there is any doubt that Williams playing time will be cut. She is averaging 35 MPG. But that will actually be a good thing. 35 is way too much. I doubt she leaves because of that. Makurat might lose her starting position with Westbrook being available. But I doubt she leaves because of that. Geno loves her game and she will get plenty of minutes. Bottom line, I’d take that bet."
TN fan - "ha good one"
Hysterical back and forth. It looks like the UConn fan was setting up the Tennessee fan and then BOOM, he hit him between the eyes with facts. All the Tennessee fan could do was give a "ha good one".

Only one UConn player in history has scored more than 800 points in a season. That was Maya Moore, who totaled 868 points. Only five Huskies have scored more than 700 points in any season. Here is that group:
Maya Moore - (3 times) 754, 736 and 868
Stewie - (2 times) 716 and 777
Napheesa Collier - (2 times) 754 and 792
Tina Charles - 708
Katie Lou - 747
Lower the scoring level to 600 or more points and a number of other UConn greats join the club.
Kerry Bascom - (3 times) 656, 615 and 680
Kara Wolters - 694
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis - 670
Diana Taurasi - 663
Bria Hartley - 647
Renee Montgomery - 644
Rebecca Lobo - 635
Nykesha Sales - 628
A current UConn player is closing in on the 600 point club. Megan Walker has 459 points through 24 games. She averages exactly 19 points per game. There are 5 regular season games and 3 probable AAC tournament games ahead. At 19 per game, Megan would reach 630 in those possible games. Add in 2, 4 or 6 possible NCAA games, and Walker could get to 700 points. Will be fun to watch..!!
Go Huskies..!!
And Part II........
Megan scores 18 points tonight vs Tulane. Pretty much right on average. That scoring pace will put her over 600 soon and in a fairly exclusive club.
