It tough after a UConn loss. Very tough. You know me, I'm so optimistic, but it's hard after a loss like this. Yes, I know I predicted a win. But I always predict a win. I just can't get myself to think they will lose a game. But it was clear that this would be a game that UConn would be out-talented and out-played. Oregon is a really, really, really good team.
So, I could write over and over again how UConn is in trouble this season, that UConn is not the same UConn we are used to, and many more negative comments that I have read for the 24+ hours since the loss on the UConn message boards. But I won't.
I'll focus that UConn might be the underdog for their upcoming game against No. 1 South Carolina, and possibly in the Elite Eight game they will play and certainly in the final four semi-final game if they get that far. But upsets happen and this team is still talented enough to pull of the upsets.
I'll just continue to write my positive blog about my UConn Huskies!!! I'll leave the bad karma to other fans.
Looking forward to a good game against Memphis and a possible upset against South Carolina.
GO HUSKIES!!!

Free throws are a funny thing. They are free in the sense that the player can stand still, with no defense and take his/her time. They also can be taken from exactly the same spot on the free throw line every single time. So why do very talented basketball players have such a hard time making them? Probably fatigue and nerves, but more on that later.
The worst free throw shooter on UConn is Aubrey Griffin. She is 31-55 or 56.4%. The sad thing is she gets fouled often and missing so many attempts hurts the Huskies. She is fouled more than Crystal (35 tries) and more than Olivia (51 tries). She is fouled more than Anna, Kyla, Molly and Evelyn Adebayo combined (only 20). Sooooo, why is she so bad ? Not enough practice. She misses free throws at the beginning, middle and end of games, so it is not fatigue. It may be nerves, but most likely just lack of practice. That can be fixed. And, it needs to be..!
Freshman season, Crystal made free throws at a 59.3% rate. Worst on the team. That team had 4 players making 80%+ of their free throws. This season, she is making 83% of her free throws and that % would be higher is she wasn't playing 38+ minutes a game. (Fatigue) By the way, the most prolific free throw shooter is Megan. She has made 59 of 73 attempts. That is 81%. Her previous two seasons she made 76% and 74%. Proof that even good free throw shooters get better with practice.
Aubrey needs to pick a free throw motion and practice, practice, practice...
Go Huskies..!!
