Last day in Florida, cloudy with thunderstorms. Today I'm just outside on the patio (under cover) watching TV and writing this blog and starting the DePaul pregame report. Back to the snow and cold of Connecticut!!

I've been pretty hard on Chennedy Carter, the star guard for Texas A&M. I've called her a volume shooter, a ball hog, a selfish player. Sometimes I'm a little too harsh.
But credit is due for her performance against TCU in a game that was a real battle.
Down three 66-63 with 1:30 remaining in the game Carter hit a huge three pointer to tie the game. TCU turned the ball over and with 32 seconds remaining Carter hit a short jumper to give A&M the lead. TCU is a tough shot with 12 seconds left giving A&M time to get their shot off.
I'm screaming at the TV "Double Team Carter and get the ball out of her hands". That was to no avail. The inbound pass went to Carter and she took her defender off the dribble to hit a nice floater in the lane. TCU had 3 seconds left to get a shot off but took too much time and the game was over.
Seven points in the last minute and a half for Carter. She won this game for her team.
However....lol........
Before hitting her last three shots she was 9-19 from the field, 0-3 on threes, and the biggest stat was that she had 8 turnovers. Without those maybe it wouldn't have been that close a game.

Critical UConn fans have complained about lousy defense by the Huskies against 3 point shooting by opponents. It is a false argument. Opponents are currently at 28% on 53-189 shooting. Last year the Huskies finished with opponents shooting 28.1%. The year before that it was 27% & three years ago UConn held opponents to 27.6% from the arc. I think I see a pattern...
The Seton Hall game is typical of why some fans complain. They started out on fire from the 3 point arc, hitting 5-9 in the 1st period. That is 55% and it helped build a 9 point lead. By the 4th period, SH hit only 2-9 threes or 22%. In the end, UConn held Seton Hall to 13-34 from three range and left with a comfortable 14 point victory.
UConn's next opponent, DePaul, shoots a ton of threes, 317 so far in just 9 games. That is 35 per game and almost half their shots..!! But, they make only 34.4%. UConn on the other hand, shoots more from inside the arc. That gives the Huskies a better chance of scoring. The DePaul defense just gave up 94 points to Notre Dame. UConn's defense held the Irish to 57. I like the Huskies' chances...!
Go Huskies..!!
