Who would have thought this award would go to two ranked teams?
No. 14 Indiana put away No. 21 Miami 58-45. Now, Indiana didn't have a true UGGY game. They did manage to shoot 37% from the field. Bad but not horrible. And they did hit 5 three pointers. Too bad it took 17 tries to do it. No, alone, it's not worth an UGGY. But Miami was SO bad, they dragged along the Hoosiers.
Miami scored 45 points for the game. Only 20 in the second half. They saved their worst for last. They hit one three pointer and 7 free throws. Not a 2 point basket in the quarter. As crazy as it is, Indiana didn't hit a 2 point field goal in the quarter either. They hit 2 threes and 6 free throws. Not a 2 point basket between the two teams in the fourth quarter. That is just insanely bad.
The Hurricane's stats are true UGGY numbers. They were 13-60 from the field for 21.7%, 4-18 on threes, 18 turnovers and 4 assists.
If you read my blog, you will remember how I linked an article from YAHOO Sports where the writer insisted that Stanford and Oregon State should be higher ranked than UConn because of who they played and how badly they beat them.
From that article - "Missouri State finally cracked the ranking at No. 22 this week after losing the regional semifinals to Stanford last season. Miami’s two losses are to DePaul by six and Oregon State by 22. It plays Indiana on Wednesday and could further prove its strength."
Yes, they sure proved their strength. Or instead, maybe they proved that the Oregon State win over Miami was not something that OSU should brag on??

One of Crystal Dangerfield's most surprising statistics is her free throws, or more specifically, lack thereof. So far this season, in 5 games, she has 7 attempts. That is 187 minutes of action with only 7 visits to the charity stripe (6-7). Aubrey Griffin, with only 90 minutes on the floor, already has 14 free throws. Olivia and Christyn also have 14 free throw tries. Megan leads the team with 21 attempts. Maybe Crystal just passes the ball before the opponent can foul her?
Last year, Crystal had 66 free throw attempts. The good news is she made 61 for a 92.4% success rate. (This year she is at 87%) Her sophomore and freshman seasons Dangerfield totaled just 58 total combined tries. She just doesn't draw fouls. Part of it is she is just very unselfish and passes when covered tightly. The other part is driving the lane and getting fouled is just not dominant in her game.
One other interesting stat is her free throw shooting percentage. Freshman year, Crystal only made 59% of her 27 tries. The next season she raised that to 81%. Last year it was 92%. Great improvement from the line. Free throw shooting can be improved with practice. Crystal is proof. Can drawing fouls be learned and improved? Probably not...
Go Huskies..!!
