Image result for NO. 1
There is an article I linked from ESPN on why Oregon State should be No. 1 and not UConn.

First of all, who gives a crap after only 10 games or so into the season.

Secondly, it's so subjective, you can make the numbers say anything.

I'll just have some fun with the three wins that ESPN is touting as the main reason that Oregon State should be No. 1. Some of my reasoning is a little tongue in cheek, but based on reality!

The big wins are against DePaul, Missouri State and Miami.

I hope you weren't drinking anything when you read that. You might have spit it out.

First let's talk about DePaul. Now, how do you use a team that UConn also beat for a reason that Oregon State is better than UConn? Dumb, huh. That being said, maybe one team did better than the other?

Well, UConn destroyed DePaul ON THE ROAD in the first half. Oregon State was at home in their overall 21 point win. In that game DePaul had it's worst shooting game of the season by a lot. They shot 36% from the field and 6-34 on threes. Horrible. Was it bad shooting or good defense? For my purposes, no doubt it was bad shooting. I guess I can be magnanimous and call that a wash. Nahhh....advantage UConn!

Let's talk about Missouri State. You know, the team that last year was coached current Tennessee coach Kelly Jolly Harper? Well, they are 9-2 and ranked 21. I'm not sure how but they are. Let's talk about THEIR wins and losses. They did lose to Oregon State 80-69. But they also lost to No. 17 Gonzaga 64-52. Does that mean that Gonzaga is as good as Oregon State? Ok, even I'm laughing at myself for that one! Ok, back to Missouri State. They only beat Boise State 72-69. They only beat South Dakota 74-66. And the big one, they beat Oklahoma 96-90. The same Oklahoma team that Uconn beat by 44 points. I think I've said enough on why a win over a Mid-Major, even a ranked Mid-Major is not a good reason to put that team over UConn.

Last, they use a road win (they put  emphasis on the road part) over Miami as a big win. And a win over DePaul as a big win. Wait, did you know that DePaul beat Miami? This Miami team has played three ranked teams and eight lousy teams. Guess what. They lost to all three ranked teams and beat the lousy teams. And two of the lousy teams almost beat them. They defeated North Carolina (A&T not the Tarheels) 68-67 and squeaked past Washington State 74-68. Bottom Line, they are not very good.

I would bet that several teams that UConn has played are on par with Missouri State and Miami. California comes to mind. Ohio State is another and they beat Louisville.

The comparable score game that I am playing is silly, right? So is writing a headline saying Oregon State should be ranked No. 1 ahead of UConn.

Image result for stats don't lie
By David in Naples!!!!!

UConn has a nice 80 point per game average. Actually, 80.4 points per game. It wasn't that way early in the season. The Huskies lowest scoring output was game #2 against Vanderbilt when they tallied only 64 points. The shooting % that day was only 41.5%. For the first six games, UConn scored 450 points or 75 per game. But the last four games have seen the explosion by Aubrey against Seton Hall (25 points), a beat down of Notre Dame and Olivia's best point total ever, against Oklahoma (27 points).

Over the last four games against Seton Hall, Notre Dame, DePaul and Oklahoma, the Huskies have scored 354 total points. That is an average of 88.5 per game. That 13 point per game improvement over the first six games is fueled by Megan's steady scoring, Crystal's three point shooting and Olivia's inside dominance. With the AAC schedule coming up, odds are the stats won't go down by much.

Go Huskies..!!
