Great day in Florida. Watched my oldest granddaughter Noa do her thing for her Cheer Florida team. She is really quite amazing. Then we went to my son's in-laws for a birthday party for Noa's sister Mya, who is turning 11!! Watched football on TV and I'm watching the game replay Sunday night. I'll give my quick impressions and write up a full post game report. It deserves it!!!

Noa is 13 years old now!!!
Her tumbling routine was just amazing!!

Well, I have to admit, this game was just anti-climatic. Yes, UConn played great, they won big against a hated rival. But from what I had seen this season from both teams, this game went exactly as I said in my pregame report.

I talked about Notre Dame's poor assist/turnover ratio. It was 12/16 in this game.
I talked about Notre Dame's poor shooting. They shot 36.9% from the field and 16% on threes (4-25).
I talked about Notre Dame's bad rebounding. UConn outrebounded the Irish 48-32.

Finally, i said "UConn has the advantage in every way and at every position. This game has the feel of a UConn/Duke game several years ago. Gample was sold out, Duke was a big rival, it was loud and UConn was inspired to play harder than ever. I believe UConn won that game by 30. Sounds like a good number to me."

Final margin was 24 but as usual, Geno slowed the game down late and UConn just didn't play as well being constrained.

Everyone contributed in this one. They came out strong, letting Notre Dame no early and often that there was no way Notre Dame could compete in this game.

The big four were terrific. Future All-American Megan Walker led the way but the other three of the big four put their stamp on this game. It looks like Geno is settling into an 8 player rotation and the last four in the rotation did a solid job. No one stood out but everyone contributed.

Here is my UConn/Notre Dame Post Game Report.

So, what is almost as good as a UConn win?

If you have read my blog regularly you know that the answer is.....

A TENNESSEE LOSS!!!

I said this in my blog yesterday - "Sunday we could find out something about No. 17 Tennessee. They play what is usually a tough team in unranked Texas. However, like Notre Dame, they have taken a step back this season. Texas is 4-4 so far this season, and underachieving. Tennessee should win this game handily as it is home and they are just the more talented team."

I love my reverse jinx in my prediction. It clearly worked as Texas was ahead for most of this game before winning 66-60.

It's interesting to read the comments from the Tennessee fans taking about this game. They are taking it pretty well. They are giving the team and the coach a break with this loss. I don't know what they are seeing but it appears the consensus is that they are playing harder and smart this season, and only of they could shoot better they could have won this game.

Like Notre Dame, this is just not a very good shooting team. I'm tempted to give them an UGGY award. The stats are just terrible. They shot 30.6% from the field, 5-21 on threes and 11-19 on free throws. That is just really bad. The only reason they were as close as they were in this game was because Texas was almost as bad. They shot 36% from the field and 5-16 on threes and 11-17 on free throws.

They next play 5-5 Colorado State before they hit the road and get to play No. 1 Stanford. One more test for this Tennessee team.

Yesterday LSU lost and I said they were just another overrated SEC team.

Sunday, No. 10 Mississippi State lost to unranked West Virginia at home 71-65. It was their first non-conference home game loss since 2014.

The Bulldogs are really missing McGowan, Howard and Scott from last years team. They are decent this year, but no where near a Top ten team.

Just another overrated SEC team.

Image result for the future

The future is just amazing for our UConn Huskies!

Watching the UConn/Notre Dame game from behind the Husky bench is 2021 No. 5 recruit and current verbal to UConn 6'5" Amari DeBerry, No. 1 recruit and incoming player for next year Paige Bueckers, and UConn recruit and hopefully a soon to be verbal No. 1 recruit from 2021 Azzi Fudd.

You can tell from their faces that Bueckers and Fudd are just best buds. You have to feel good about these two playing together for three years.

Image result for stats don't lie
By David in Naples!!!!!

No Muffet, your team was beaten badly, so stop trying to say otherwise. Your team played poorly in every aspect of the game. Your team had more turnovers (16) than assists (12). Here are the stats, and they don’t lie.
1. ND shot 4-25 or 16% from the 3 pt arc. Don’t take those shots if you can’t make them.
2. ND went 5-9 from the free throw line. Practice more.
3. UConn out rebounded the Irish 48-32.
4. Brunel their star shot 2-10 and played only 19 minutes.
5. ND was called for 13 fouls and got away with a dozen others.
6. ND gave up 52 points in the first half.

Muffet, the lack of talent is on you. Recruit better and don’t play your selfish starting five all game last year. Space your recruiting and don’t cry when people transfer.

You have a losing record at 5-6. Going to be a long season Muffet.

Go Huskies..!!
