Get better soon Coach!!! Geno will be out for Sunday's game against Oklahoma, resting after having surgery to alleviate symptoms from diverticulitis. Not fun! But I'm sure he will be feeling better.

Coach Dailey will be taking over for Sunday's game. She is 9-0 as head coach, including two wins last year when Geno was under the weather.

I always love how she handles the team. Her substitution patterns are a little different than Geno. The team will play extra hard for her. It's like playing the game for your mother. You really want to please her!

Image result for it's worse than i thought

I have the PAC12 on my cable and I was able to watch the Tennessee at Stanford game Wednesday night. Here is a bold statement. The Tennessee offense is maybe the worst I've seen this season. Really.

They literally run zero offense. Well, maybe they pass the ball around the perimeter for a while, but when they want to attempt to score they usually do 1-1. It's not pretty. It's certainly not gritty.

Against Stanford, the numbers were really bad. How bad you might ask? You know what's coming, don't you....its an UGGY AWARD!!!

Yes, your favorite part of my blog.

Here are the particulars.

They were 20-72 for a sparkling 27.8% from the field. And how was their three point shooting? 5-19 and that included starting out 2-2. They didn't get to the line much, but probably a good thing. It would be worse than the embarrassing 6-11. The big, tall and dominant players for Tennessee gave up 50 rebounds of which 15 were offensive. Only the lack of turnovers kept the Lady Vols from being an all time UGGY game.

So, now Tennessee has lost 2 of 3 and will more than likely drop from No. 23 to out of the Top 25. They have two OOC cupcakes before playing their first SEC game against a terrible Missouri team before playing their next test, No. 14 Kentucky. The Wildcats play some great defense, so it could be a struggle for Tennessee to reach 50 points in that game.

Image result for philosophy

From Phil

As we all know, there are two ranking systems, one run by the AP writers and the other, the coaches poll. Not surprisingly, the top 25 for each tends to be very similar, and line by line there are few differences. Many of the teams occupy exactly the same row, and a number of others are within one or two lines between the two rankings.

I see two examples of teams that are different by four positions:

1. South Dakota at number 25 in the AP and number 21 in the coaches poll
2. Michigan State at 19 in the AP and number 23 in the coaches poll

All the other teams in the top 25 are closer to one another. I think it's fair to conclude that the two groups of voters see the teams very much the same way.

There are two anomalies that cause some head scratching.

Princeton is rated number 26 by Massey. The coaches poll comes close to agreeing, giving them enough points that they would be number 27, so the coaches poll and Massey are very much in sync regarding Princeton. However, the AP poll has nine teams getting points that don't make the top 25, but Princeton doesn't get a single vote. That means, at best, the AP writers see Princeton as rank 35 or worse. I wonder why the AP and the coaches see almost exactly eye to eye on most teams, but see Princeton differently?

On the flipside, Rutgers (ranked number 28 by Massey) gets enough votes in the AP poll that they would be 29 but not a single vote in the coaches poll.

What is it about Rutgers and Princeton (which coincidentally are only 16 miles apart) that has the two groups of voters viewing them so differently?

Image result for stats don't lie
By David in Naples!!!!!

Apparently, only UConn games on campus and/or at XL Center count as home games. The upcoming game at Mohegan Sun against Oklahoma is not an "official" home game for winning streak purposes. As best as I can tell, the Huskies are at 98 "home" wins in a row and the next chance to extend that will be against Wichita State on January 2nd. A victory there would get the streak to 99 and Baylor would come to town for the chance to extend to 100. Interestingly, UConn and Baylor have broken each other's streaks four times.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa went 9-9 in the victory against DePaul. She also made her only free throw attempt. The only other player to make all field goal attempts this season (minimum 3 tries) was Kyla Irwin who went 4-4 against Virginia. Last season, no player trying more than 3 field goals made them all.
