DePaul had their final tune up before playing UConn so I was able to finish my Pregame Report.
The Blue Demons defeated Alabama State (RPI 293) 105-76 in a not surprising blowout.
This game really blows my mind for a few reasons.
- DePaul scored 40 points in the first quarter on their way to 105.
- DePaul was 14-36 on three point shots. Not a great percentage but making 14 of them is huge.
- 12 players had double digit minutes, with only one player with more than 20.
- DePaul played 14 players.
- Only one starter played in the second half and that was for only 2 minutes.
- Only one starter played in the second half and that was for only 2 minutes.
- 8 players made at least one three pointer.
- DePaul had 28 assists on their 37 baskets.
I can tell you for sure that DePaul will not play 14 players and 12 players double digit minutes against UConn. I looked at their competitive games and they really only go 6-7 deep. I'll be considering this game though when I do my analysis.
Doug is no dummy. You know he was resting his players as the UConn game will be their third game in a week.

Some interesting games Sunday.
In a battle of the Blue Grass State, No. 7 Louisville is paying a visit to No. 14 Kentucky. ACC vs SEC.
No. 5 South Carolina takes on a tough Purdue team. This game could be an upset.
No. 1 Stanford has a very tough Ohio State coming into Maples. Will this game slide UConn into the No. 1 spot???

Everyone knows the Pac-12 has some good basketball teams this season, but when did the state of Oregon become the mecca of women's college basketball? Oregon State is 8-0 and ranked #4 in the country. Oregon is 7-1, but actually #3 in the USA. Soon, those two teams will start playing each other and other Pac-12 members, like #1 Stanford. The good news for UConn is they play each other a lot.
The strangest schedule is between Oregon and Oregon State. They meet at Oregon on January 24th. Then, they play their next game against each other at Oregon State on January 26th. Imagine UConn playing at Notre Dame and then meeting them again 2 days later in Storrs..!! Oregon State and Oregon both play tonight, but it is the cupcake part of the schedule.
#16 DePaul also plays tonight, at home, against Alabama State (3-5). At least Geno and staff can get fresh scouting of UConn's next opponent. It will be raining threes all night and maybe DePaul will get tired arms for the Monday game against the Huskies..!!
