Here are a few observations from games I was able to watch.

DePaul / Minnesota - You sure can tell that Doug Bruno has been hanging around with Geno. With less talented players, he basically runs the same reacting offense. They drive and kick and then quickly move the ball to the open player. They really are a pleasure to watch. Minnesota's Zahui B. is just a dominating force out there. She had her 24th double-double and on one play, she picked a DePaul defender sending her to the floor and then took a pass as she moved down the lane, knocking over another DePaul player trying to take the charge. She plays as big as her hair.

Duke / Albany - I watched Albany in the American East final against Hartford and I would have never guessed they would give Duke such a tough game. But give them credit, they played some tenacious defense, forcing 27 Duke turnovers and in spite of shooting 30% from the field, they had a 2 point lead with 22 second left over the No. 4 seed Blue Devils. Rebecca Greenwell had a great game and really saved Dukes butt and probably McCaulie's ass as well. You have to give Albany lots of props, but you can fairly say that McCaulie is just a bad coach. She never changes her strategy, never adjusts to game situations. Rumors are out there that Duke is trying to buy out her contract. You have to believe she needs a long run in the NCAA's to save her job.

Goodbye to one AAC team in Tulane. They played a great game against Mississippi State defensively but couldn't figure out how to put the ball in the basket. But they did the AAC proud.

The Syracuse / Nebraska game was fun to watch. Quentin Hillsman is a show in himself. He really gets in his players faces. And he micro-coaches situations pointing to each player to tell them what he wants them to do. And the Nebraska coach was jumping around with every call that went against them. She just about hit the ground on an attempted charge that was called a block against one of her players. The game was close throughout and Syracuse did their best to give the game away, missing several free throws. Peterson hit four free throws late to seal the game, but they were 6-21 the rest of the game. It should be an interesting rematch with South Carolina on Sunday but I expect a big South Carolina win.
